I remember the long car trips where everyone and the dog were piled in and of you set for what seemed hours.
As an adult you go searching for all those places you were taken as a kid and shockingly most of them are less than 10 miles away!

I remember getting really excited when the TV announcer said that the next programme, The Rolf Harris Show, would be shown in colour and then being very disappointed when it was in black and white - well she never said you needed a colour TV to watch it in colour.

It was a pretty miserable decade but at least the 80s came along afterwards Looking back, it was pretty miserable in absolute standard of living terms, but at the time I loved it. I was 11 years old in 1970, and left university in 1980. I learned to fly model aeroplanes, smoke, drink, play guitar, ride motorbikes, and fool around with girls in the 1970s. In the 1980s I learned how to be an adult. That was far less fun on the whole, although my material standard of living improved enormously. 1970s were the start of the improvement of living standards for all: http://econ.economicshelp.org/2010/02/economy-of-1... With hindsight we can see that - but it wasn't altogether obvious at the time. Indeed, economic well being had been improving from the end of the 50s. Indeed potatoes fuelled most of the house buying panic of 1967. However the Morris marina started the downturn that ended in mass riots. See, we can all do that.

See, we can all do that. You obviously have a clearer insight into things than most of us - although I do know for sure that the Shah of Iran was overthrown in 1979 as a protest against the proponderence of Hillman Hunters in that country.

Only just scraping into the 70's. I bought the re-released one recently, not overly impressed But it still impresses the young 'uns

Just watched Vanishing Point. I'm suddenly more sympathetic to this thread. Even though I was -9 when the film was made...

Great music and wonderful new experiences, like pop festivals. I still have this programme/flyer I got at the event, plus my half ticket. I was late teens then...weekend hippy. .

Yes, my personal favourites based on performance were Santana and Pink Floyd. Donovan also just showed up and played (very well) for an hour or so free of charge. Sadly there seems to be virtually nothing on youtube except for a couple of short vids of Led Zep with very poor sound quality. The weather was fantastic, and I and a bunch of friends went down from York for the weekend...me sleeping under a cycle cape with my girlfriend.
