Right folks, what's the recommended method of cleaning suede? A night out with work at the weekend left me with a pair of Clarks Desert Boots that look like they've been to war. What's the best way to remove a boozy night's spilt drink and other grime? I've already thought of attacking them with a suede brush but haven't tried it yet.
Get a cleaning kit from smeakersER they are amazing, that and a toothbrush with work wonders

Originally had my heart set on a pair of Hugo Boss, the reality was they looked more like steel toe-capped work shoes. After some deliberation I decided on these, my first pair of Loake.

Always nice to get your first pair of Goodyear welted Loake/Barker/Grenson. Enjoy.

Just be aware that the shiny coated leather are a little more stiff and may take a while to break in.

So what's going on with these then?

I normally don't have problems with Russell and Bromley shoes, but the first pair of these went back a couple of weeks ago and these might soon be following them.

The right shoe is creasing like I'd expect a decent shoe to crease. The left one like something from Top Man.

Is there a lot of space above your foot over the vamp? That can sometimes account for the buckling or rolling which you are experiencing and thicker leather will also have this effect (such as cordovan which is notorious for this).

The way they have creased seems quite normal but it is just the depth of the creases which I think is your concern?
I dropped these into R&B Knightsbridge today. The manager agreed that the leathers were poorly matched and one had creased a fair bit. I walked out in my third pair.

It's the first time I've had a problem with R$B shoes. To be honest, I am not sure that the model is up to their normal standard. But it's a good-looking and comfortabe shoe, so I am hopeful that this pair will be okay.

Has anyone had any experience (I know I could search but ...) of Herring?

First time I've spent a load on a pair of shoes and have been looking for some decent brogue boots. Initially looked at Loake Burford but then came across these :

http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/herring/exmoor_tweed...

..which I really like the look of, I guess the tweed is very marmite but for me I love it. Just wondered if anyone has had experience of Herring shoes/boots?

Ta smile

Yes, I've bought from Herring a few times, no problems whatsoever. These appear to be made by Cheaney for Herring. I've got a pair of shoes of the same origin (chamberlain?) and they're the equal of my branded cheaney pair (lime?).

You gotta love the Italians.

I bought a pair of the Canali shoes that I posted some pages back. They arrived today from Italy, 2 days after ordering them.

At the risk of appearing like a teenage American girl doing a "purse unboxing" on Youtube, you've got to see this:

Inside the shipping carton was a card and a tissue-wrapped shoe box, and my name printed on the seal.

Inside that was another layer of wrapping, with a red ribbon.

Inside that, more pristine packaging and a pair of quality dust bags.

And finally the shoes.

I was buying blind size-wise and pleasingly they fit well. The leather is so soft that even putting them on creased them slightly, so I will be interested to see how they wear. The facings seem quite separated, but I am guessing that with wear they will close somewhat - I do have a high instep though.

All in all Canali gave me the best online shopping experience I've encountered. It makes me want to explore the rest of their stuff.

Two days later!? It took longer than that for my shoes to arrive from Kettering! hehe

Love the colour and the shape of the toe - very understated and timeless.

Thanks IR.

In the flesh they are semi-matt, not shiny. What product would you use on them? I get conflicting reports regarding using a nano sealer before wearing shoes.

I only use a nano protector on suede shoes personally. A good layer of wax will protect most leather uppers sufficiently from all but the most catastrophic accidents.

Wax would be a bit shiny methinks.
