Anybody have any tips for where to get a nice, smart, fitted overcoat or trench coat?
Actually, I'm in London on Monday so any suggestions of places in London to go to would be appreciated too.
Selfridges or failing that one of the other department stores along Oxford St.Actually, I'm in London on Monday so any suggestions of places in London to go to would be appreciated too.

If you are in the west end the options will be 5 quid to 5000 quid.

Budget is up to around £500, ish. Happy to spend more for real quality, though I do find it hard to keep smart clothes pristine, so probably best for me to spend a bit less on something that I don't mind chucking at the dry cleaners every once in a while.
For that much you will smash it so unless you have a specific designer in mind try Selfridges or Liberty.If that fails there is a Primark nr Tottenham Court Road station.
Loads of options online as well.

Just ordered my first pair of Loakes - quite excited, and some wax via them too. 2 working days delivery is pretty impressive.
hoping they will last longer than the boots I bought from Jones - 14 months and one resole / heel later they are done, I do use them most weekdays though!
Good buy, my Loakes Bedales are fantastic quality.hoping they will last longer than the boots I bought from Jones - 14 months and one resole / heel later they are done, I do use them most weekdays though!

With that in mind, is the standard suggestion of Charles Tyrwhitt worth a look?Wool/cashmere combo overcoats for ~£200 http://www.ctshirts.com/uk/mens-outerwear/coats/ov...
At that price point you can buy two and be less precious over them and not be stung with the 'designer premium' you may get at Selfridges etc.

I" after some advice for slightly darkening the finish on a pair of shoes.
They're Loake Edwards and a shade too light for me, is there anything I can do or would they need to go back to Loakes?
You can use some coloured shoe cream for a subtle colour change, or you could use Feibings oil dye for a more dramatic permanent change. I have dyed a few pairs of shoes now - really not difficult.They're Loake Edwards and a shade too light for me, is there anything I can do or would they need to go back to Loakes?
ETA: Some photos of my shoe dye projects.
I started with two pairs of cheap tan boot like these;
I wanted to have one pair in dark brown, so I created;
I found it quite fun using the dye, so I ended up painting a patina on the other tan pair;
Then when one of my favourite pairs of Crockett and Jones started to look faded, decided to dye them back to their original colour;
Before-
After-
All you need is 100% acetone to prepare the surface, then a mixture of Lexol conditioner and feibings oil dye. Neat oil dye would soak in too fast and make application difficult.

I have trouble seeing past the word 'Spezial' if I'm honest. Are we allowed to swap camps on this thread anyway?
If not allowed, what is the penalty? I'm going to start checking the croquet lawn and tennis courts for submerged sausages.bob-lad said:

Not necessary! Foot in both camps is fine.Trabi601 said:
Great choice! I wear my black ones everywhere.
Once I decided on a pair of Adidas and started looking into it, I found there was a surprising range. Given the number arsenalmorris has collected I thought it would be easier to find some that I liked, but a lot of the ones you can just buy in the shops any old time didn't appeal. Hunting down a pair in the style and colour I wanted wasn't easy.InductionRoar said:
