Am looking for a nice rounder toe single monk black leather shoe. Have seen a really nice design on Herring: Hilton http://www.herringshoes.co.uk/product-info.php?&am... . any other recommendations? Do Herring do discount codes at all? Looking to buy another pair in addition to these which I have my eye on

Just bought a pair of these. My first pair of Barkers.
First impressions are that they are well made and solid quality. They are 'firm' though, so will take a bit of wearing in. My previous Loakes have all been great straight from the box, so this is a difference.
They are also leather soles, whereas I normally go for dianite or rubber soles. So watch this space- I might have a trip to A&E to tell you all about later this week...
sorry to tell you that i have owned a pair for 2 years and then don't really seem to be softening up. I don't wear them hugely often but they are still known to take skin off the tops of my toes. Also careful when new because those soles are SLIPPY. I actually fell down the stairs in my house, wearing my wedding suit and all ready on the morning of my wedding! I was coasting on adrenaline though and only remembered 2 days later in Sorrento when i found a gigantic bruise on my arse. I digress. They are nice shoes. Whilst they are very firm, they are still very comfy so it's all good. I've worn them for two full days now and have had no issues.Your warning on the soles is a few days too late! I have nearly fallen over many times at work, and even fell into the corner of a wall within a few minutes of wearing them for the first time (I drive in trainers and change when I arrive). Fortunately no-one saw any of those incidents. It's not the sole that's the problem, it's the seemingly teflon-coated heel!

Last 443? I had a pair in that last (Woody) that did the same. I threw them out in the end. Seemingly I am a 446 man; same shape but more vertical toe space. Of course, that one only comes in "wacky" colourways, and I'm not this fker:

I too have issues with 443. My Barker Johnny brogues felt great in the shop and they fit really nicely around my foot and look quite sleek. However, when I walk in them, the crease in the vamp digs right into the joint of my toes. I thought that I need to get a half size smaller, but it sounds like other have the same problem.
Shame, as they are a good looking modern shape IMO.
ETA: I particularly like the brown verson of the Mcclean
