Pardon?
It's not difficult.

I will be holidaying in France.
I suspect I do not own any suitable foot wear.
What is suggested for general mooching about that will be suitable & comfortable?

Whatever you usually wear for doing that in the UK.

In this country I'm either at home (slippers) or I'm in an environment suitable for a decent shoe. I can't imagine in 30 degree heat I'll be that keen on wearing proper English shoes. I can't see how it's so difficult to grasp that people will likely wear different footwear when on Holiday abroad to their usual attire.

Okay, whatever you usually wear on holiday in a country a bit warmer than the UK.

Hint: we do occasionally get pretty warm weather here too. What do you wear then?

I find it difficult to deal with 20'c heat, so I tend not to go to warmer places. I am looking for advice, as I don't expect my usual Barker Derby shoes which I wear for casual situations will be the best for potential 30'c heat. I assumed that something like deck shoes might be more appropriate?

I do not understand these posh, expensive shoes? Some of the shoes in here look hideous too (Monk shoes I'm looking at you!).

I was also once chastised for wearing brown shoes because I did not have a brown belt on, is this still the way of the world?

As I recall it was because you weren't wearing any trousers or underwear either. The Dorchester DOES have a dress code you know.

The Belt should always match the shoes, anything else is just slovenly

Too right it is, never mix black shoes with a brown belt or vice versa!!

Schoolboy error!!

Got myself a pair of these last week. Taking a little breaking in though:

ETA - for casual wear, not work! Wore them all evening for two nights last week though and they still need to soften up a bit.

Are you for real? hehe

Just go and buy a pair of shoes that you like the look of and that you feel would be suitable for such an application.

If we're being pedantic surely deck shoes should only be worn on the deck of a boat.... biggrin

It's not the law, you can choose not to appreciate good shoes. It's only the same as watch/car/wine/etc enthusiasts, some take pleasure in appreciating nice ****.
My 'posh expensive' shoes are likely to last twenty years, so a sound investment. Good Oxford's and brogues are likely to suit most occasions requiring little thought about what's 'fashionable'.
Then again, I may be talking **** to justify my purchases. wink

Just picked up a pair of these in the sale. They were a steal, so I couldn't resist.

Second pair of Y3's - love them.
