Looking for some views/opinions on the following shoes. I should point out that I hate buying shoes as I dislike 95% of whats on offer - I also seem to have morphed into my dad having started buying the same shoes over and over again as they are comfy (Merrell). Anyway, I went into Clarks today looking for a pair of shoes to go with a suit as they had 20% off - couldn't decide between these two....

In my view, the shoe on the left is more formal. It is a Oxford Toe Cap design. The other shoe has a Derby lace style (the shoe opens a lot wider to get your foot in).

If they are both as comfortable as each other, I would go with the one on the left to go with a suit.

Is this the right place to dive in for a bit of shoe care support?

My shoes aren't anywhere near the calibre of some of the stuff on here (in fact my finest is a pair of Ted Bakers at not much over the ton!).

I have two pairs for work, and swap them out evenly. They get a polish every ten days (of wear) with a tin of kiwi polish, and then sprayed with some protector stuff.

I've found they're still drying out though which is causing the creases where the shoe bends above the toes to look pretty manky. I gather my next step is some sort of conditioner to be added into my monthly routine pre-polish. Can anyone suggest something as all I seem to find is express shine creams etc...

Also how big a deal are shoe trees? Should I be looking at two pairs asap to keep things tip top?

Oh and of course a picture (I think someone on the previous page has the same pair!):

Thanks!

Buy another pair (or two) and do not wear the same pair every day. Allow them to dry out after use - naturally NOT in a heated environ. Keep them polished to replenish the oils in the leather and get some shoes trees (preferably unpolished wood) to stop them drying with the creases in (and then cracking).

Crockett and Jones even mention oiling the soles with leather restorer if the soles are indeed leather.

I've got a pair of those on the left. They're extremely comfortable; sizing is on the large size (I'm usually an 81/2 - 9 but ended up with size 7).

I ended up buying both pairs as I tend to go through shoes - my left leg is short by 30mm due to a childhood condition (perthes disease) so I get them built up (on the heal and insert). I am normally a 9.5 but ended up with size 8 so their sizing is definitely a bit off.

Any more clues for the uninitiated - there are a lot of threads.
A couple of others to try.

The factory shoe shop in the village of Olney between Milton Keynes and Northampton, they have a good stock of Loakes generally and a nice village to walk round.

Also, if you like Dr. Martens, their actory shop is in Wollaston in the same area (ish) a very good range at all times though they aren't to my taste. Half normal shop prices though.
Nice one. Ta.

Good bargain buy today, needed something sturdy for the winter so bought these:-

Goodyear welted and very nicely made, £89 from the Barbour factory shop in South Shields which I thought is pretty good.

I'm planning on a visit to Northampton soon to get some proper shoes, but these have scratched an itch for now.

Nice natural shine, what's your method? Just had these back after refurb and feel they could be a bit shinier, currently using wax.

That was just how they came back from the refurb!

I generally just use a decent quality shoe cream, and a regular dusting off after every wearing - nothing fancy!

Needed something practical for work and winter wear and they fit the bill, nicely. Thanks.
