To be honest, the company I bought them from is a friend of my brother so that's probably why I went for them over some cheap asics or something.

The new shoes have arrived at last. It was a bit of a trawl and I wouldn't call it exceptional service (actually there were a few fundamental errors one wouldn't expect when spending this sort of cash!) but the product is very comfortable, even before wearing them in.
Noticed they'd shut up in Prince's Arcade.NomduJour said:

No idea, they haven't arrived yet.
I'm intending to use them as a general kick about trainer, with the odd approach or scramble thrown in, as I've got dedicated boots for proper stuff and rock shoes for climbing with.
I quite like them. Will be waiting for your reviewI'm intending to use them as a general kick about trainer, with the odd approach or scramble thrown in, as I've got dedicated boots for proper stuff and rock shoes for climbing with.
I like them a lot, very comfortable and since I've been walking over iced paths etc, I can confirm that they are very grippy too. They could definitely be used for light scrambling work and although you wouldn't want to replace dedicated rock shoes with them, you could climb in them if you had to.
They also look cool - I think
So, at home on the crag or down the pub, would be my summary. If you like 'em, buy 'em
Yes, Loake Thirsk is what they are. I looked at the Grenson equivalent but for the usage envisaged rubber soles are better. In my youth I always wore black Chelsea boots from Saxone; leather uppers and soles, and at a grand price of £8 a pair. I afterwards lived in Leicestershire and always bought from the factory shops in Northampton, being lucky because samples were always made in size 8, and those not put into production were £25 per pair. I still have plenty of Loake and Barker shoes in the cupboard and still wear regularly my last pair of suede buckle boots I bought 25 years ago. Most comfy!
