We appear to have remarkably similar tastes, good job!

Dare I ask how much they were?
Indeed!

Absolute bargain price of £210. This is cheap for new Church's - even the imperfect seconds direct from the factory shop are around that price, but these ones are not seconds.

They have a few other models at that price but I got these as I wanted a rubber sole and the last shape fits my foot.

Wow, that is seriously cheap for a pair of Church's.

How do you find the 138 last, is it a wider or narrower fit?

I'm on the hunt for some black brogues and although I'm more of a derby man it's hard to look past them for the price. They don't look overly wide but lucks rarely on my side with fitment!

I think it depends on your industry. For a Lawyer or banker - no. However, for a travelling sales engineer, I think these would be very presentable. Propper "smart" oxfords would be absolutely useless for a trip to Scandinavia to walk around a snowy industrial site.

I'd wear those.

Glad you've had a result (sort of). I would have been surprised if you'd gone from disappointed to delighted. Hopefully they will wear well.

+1. From the photos, I an't see any quality issues to be concerned about. Wear them in good health!
Thank you. thumbup
The fit is excellent and they look and feel great. Many compliments too.
Give them a few more wears and they'll be perfect.
Need to find out the maker though so I can find which last. Will contact Tyrwhits next week.

Actually got them for Ebay for £170. Having seen them in the flesh, and worn them, can happily say they're actually worth the original price - and am delighted with having picked up a bargain.

I was after a pair of smart but practical brogue boots. After crippling me for the first few wears they now fit me like a glove.
Well made and good value I feel.
Are you starring in a stage production of Oliver Twist?

Those do look very nice, but they are listed at £329 on the Wolverine website?!?!

I assume other outlets sell them at a more realistic cost?

£300 + puts them in the Grenson etc price band??

That's the stuff!

If herring is sold out, try Amazon or eBay

Three from herring and a black polish from Amazon.

Thanks for the advice again - it's much appreciated.

Yes, that is one of the best products for fine leather shoes. I always use a layer of Saphir Renovateur as soon at the shoes arrive to nourish the leather. You can actually get quote a nice soft shine from that product alone.

The coloured creams help the shoes to look fresh and cover up the scratches though.

I got the renovateur on my new pair last night as I waited for the polish and cream to arrive. And to be honest what you said is bang on, even off that they have a great depth and shine. I can only imagine what it's going to be like after a wax and polish.
