Just picked up these, and impressed with quality and how comfortable they are already.

Those do look very nice, but they are listed at £329 on the Wolverine website?!?!

I assume other outlets sell them at a more realistic cost?

£300 + puts them in the Grenson etc price band??
Shop around. wink

I'm sorry, but I am not sure I like the laces done that way. Just me being old I guess, but on such a traditional shoe it seems out of place. Lovely shoes none the less.

I did, I couldn't help myself. I was in need of black brogues and who can say no to Church's at that price?

They must have came with a lot of product already on them, when I was applying my renovator it seemed to be stripping it of it's shine and covering my cloth in black stuff!

Don't worry - that's perfectly normal.

Have you got the Saphir black cream yet? After you have buffed off the Renovateur, apply the black cream with a brush and leave the cream on for a good few hours. This will allow time for the oils to soak into the leather. Brand new shoes can be a bit dry.

I will upload a pic of mine when I have finished with them.

Mine looked like yours out of the box too. Some people like to keep them with that finish. I prefer a bit of a shine though, so a little elbow work with Saphir brings me to;

Oops - I only left the cream on for 5 minutes as per the jar. I just assumed once I got the wax on (in the post) they would come up again!

To be honest I didn't think I was after much of a shine, but yours look cracking there.

It's no problem. 5 minutes of cream is way better than no cream. The leather will already have taken mink oil from the Reno'. The main shine comes from the wax anyway. It doesn't harm to apply a 2nd coating of cream if you want - in fact I did exactly that. Use a slightly damp cloth and you will see the shine developing too.

Take the edge off by watching the various shoe manufacturing and polishing videos on youtube. It works out a lot cheaper than visiting eBay!

Decent shine. smile

Would you normally leave the laces as shown or do you experiment with different lacing styles?
I've never liked that 'shoe shop' style and prefer messing them about - a few styles here: click.

I hate it when I'm tying my trainers/shoes, and one lace ends up being 3 miles longer than the other...bks! laugh

They're great, as are lots of the Adidas range but I really hate the gold branding they've decided to stick on everything. I'd have purchased loads of them otherwise.

Yes, it's naff isn't it. The three stripes is so iconic no branding on the sides is required.

Couldn't disagree more. I love all my London's with gold detailing.
