Decent shine.
Would you normally leave the laces as shown or do you experiment with different lacing styles?
I've never liked that 'shoe shop' style and prefer messing them about - a few styles here: click.

I used to always tie my laces criss-cross to tighten them up more easily.
However, since I've been buying more formal oxfords, I have started to do bar lacing. Note, it's not the same as "straight lacing" that they use on brand new shoes which are impossible to tighten up properly. The bar lacing has some element of crossing on the other side to help when doing up.
I've just done that exact same bar lacing on my Church's as it works on even pairs. I agree on a more formal Oxford it has to be a straight bar style.
I suspect he's referring to this style though? http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/straighteuropeanla... as it's got the criss-cross underneath? Just tried this on my Loakes (odd number) and it certainly pulls it in tight!

Yes, that's the one I use. It doesn't look particularly niceif you end up with a gap between the two sides if yu can see the criss cross. It looks nice if the twosides pull close together though.I suspect he's referring to this style though? http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/straighteuropeanla... as it's got the criss-cross underneath? Having walked to work this morning with straight bar lacing (no criss-cross underneath) I think it's a bit crap. It can't pull the sides tight together although the bars obviously look right.
I'll be changing these to the other method this weekend, I'm fortunate enough I can always pull them tight to hide the mess underneath.

Can anybody help me understand the £40 price difference between these 2 pairs of Loake's?

Materials are the same according to the listing and the style is very, very similar.
Point taken on UK vs imported though.
Look very different to me. Point taken on UK vs imported though.
Indian made 251 has four eyelets and twin seam on 033 last and UK made McQueen has three eyelets, cleaner look on legend last.
Whichever fits you best and you like the look of though.
