Surely it's just comparable to the stresses laces get put through?

I.e. they're designed to do it.

Laces are easily replaced though.

Problem solved!

those shoe trees looks like a really good fit! What brand are they and what size shoe/tree do you have?

It took me ages to find trees that would fit my Barker Johnny (same last shape as yours) as the shoes were too narrow for most of the trees I tried.
These, I looked at quite a few and these seemed well built, good reviews and good price.

Crikey, is £25 the going rate? I need a pair and was expecting to pay less than that.

Can anyone recommend alternatives, or is the only alternative to stop being such a tight-wad?

If your shoe is of a relatively narrow last design, be wary of those cheaper trees. I bought 2 different trees for my Barkers before I got the CT ones. The first two just wouldn't fit in the shoe even after sanding them down for hours. They were just too full/wide.

I have 5 or 6 pairs of the CT shoes now as I am so pleased with them.

Noted, and thanks, but I have wide feet so doubt it'll be a problem.

As I posted on the previous page... AMAZON30 gets you £10 off anything on the CT website.

Mine were delivered to work today, and I'm working from home frown

I can almost smell them though!

How are they?

I've bought a few pairs of KG stuff online, and the quality seems to vary massively, some have been very nice, some have been utter st.
For me they look like they fall into the 'look nice but won't last' pile
they're OK if you get them marked down, online outlets and so on. I wouldn't pay more than £50 for a pair of KGs personally, and at that price bracket they're fine.
They're pretty good so far, fairly substantial and I undo the buckle to get them on and off. I've got quite few pairs of KG's and the leather ones seem better than the suede. My desert boots feel a bit cheap. That said I tend to stick to a £50 limit per pair too. If you register with their website you'll be notified of the flash sales which are normally 50% discount

I purchased a pair of 'alan' in the sale today. Their new collection just seemed very overpriced for what it is. Only 60 quid so not expecting longevity.

A girl in the office today got excited as she clocked one of the lads was wearing KG shoes so he must have good taste in footwear, I mentioned they weren't even Goodyear welted like my Loakes, I got an odd look as if to say WTF

And that surprises you? I'd have said WTF too, and I know what you're talking about.

I suspect Kurt Geiger is a well known high street brand so recognizable to many. Many of the Northampton made shoes are rarely seen in the high street shops so no surprize they're not so well known.
I was wearing some nice Cheaney brogues the other day - someone commented on my 'nice socks'. They're branded Hugo Boss so perceived to be good. They were a gift this Christmas and are not wearing well.

Cool story bro getmecoat

Just received a pair of Loake Cannon double monks.
At first glance don't seem as well made, and leather not as high quality/thick as my other Church's or Crockett & Jones, but then they cost 2/3rds of the price.

Not sure I love them. I would have preferred them slightly narrower and "pointier".
Any suggestions?

Cant compare them to your Church's or C&J's quality wise.

But the Barkers I posted on the previous page (McLean's) are certainly Narrower and pointier than any other Brogues I've seen.
