I used to wear Rockport or Kickers to school, nothing council about them at all. The knock offs they sold in Barratts/down the market on the other hand...
Rockports were the dog's bks when I was at school. They were usually coupled with trackies and Burberry caps however (well, it was a comprehensive after all). Can't fault the stitching but the soles used to wear down very quickly, probably something to do with the 'gangster swag' they were subjected to.LordGrover said:
Too big for my dainty size 11s.

the 9's fit my arches perfectly but the right outer toes are slightly cramped [my right foot is larger than the left]. the 9.5's have more toe room but the arches on the soles sit slightly too far forward.
the leather i also stiff, meaning the larger size feels slightly large and my ankles are taking the flak from the sides.

Keep the 9's. Brogues are always super stiff when new. Its got to the point where i always wear two pairs of socks with new smart shoes as they are bound to cause blisters otherwise.the 9's fit my arches perfectly but the right outer toes are slightly cramped [my right foot is larger than the left]. the 9.5's have more toe room but the arches on the soles sit slightly too far forward.

Strange criteria TBH. Most decent, welted boots will be lace ups or Chelsea elastic.
Jeffery West might be one of your only hopes

Personally, I would be looking at lace ups from Crockett & Jones or Trickers.
I don't see how it's strange, I like plain and never tie laces. I've got a few pairs including Jeffery West but they're hard to find, especially in summer. I don't know if I could get on with that heel but other than that they are perfect. Bookmarked.Jeffery West might be one of your only hopes

Again, this is why I don't get the objection to wearing a nice rubber commando type sole, feels like a 6 month old pair straight out the box. And no one would ever think it is not leather to look at it. Generally cost a few quid more but well worth it.
Fancied something smart casual to wear with jeans for daytime stuff.
2nd time purchasing from Watkinsons in York and overall a good experience. Not really as enthusiastic as I'd expect for a premium product but they do have a good range and throw in various extras when buying at full price, polish, spare laces, suede brush etc. Nothing bad about what they do, just a quite reserved service style. I'd certainly buy from them again.

Can anyone point me in the direction of my next pair of shoes? Although when I say shoes I mean boots, I don't wear shoes.
Must be black, no laces, preferably not chelsea style with the elastic, definitely no brogue type perforations. Basically plain black and pointed with a zip fastening (or the toggle closure Jeffery West did once about 20 years ago!).
Given the tight spec price is open ended.
Exactly the brief I had once and I bought these: http://www.shoeaholics.com/hannor-zip-boot-black-l...Must be black, no laces, preferably not chelsea style with the elastic, definitely no brogue type perforations.
