When I was researching quality shoes, I didn't come across LV as a respected supplier among shoe aficionados. I'm not saying they are bad, but there wasn't hordes of people singing their praises.

To get real quality, it's better to stick with proper shoe makers rather than fashion brands IMO.

Church's, Crockett & Jones, Trickers, Alfred Sargent, Graziano & Girling, John Lobb etc.

Louis Vuitton isn't a fashion brand, it's haute couture like Martin Margiella, Yves Saint Laurent etc.

I can't speak for their shoes, but I've had a weekend hold-all type bag that has been thoroughly abused by myself over the past 10 years and it is still in great shape. I'd buy in confidence based on that alone.

Bags and shoes aren't the same though.

I have bought my Wife several LV bags which she loves.

Those shoes posted don't even look to have a welted sole. It looks like rubber soles glued on (where it the welt/stitching?). I'd expect more for £600.

I believe a lot of LV shoes are glued or blake stitched a la Berluti - less hard wearing but lighter construction.

I agree though, LV is a fashion brand and not to be considered with the top shoe makers. As far as I am aware their manufacture is outsourced as well so that says fashion in no uncertain terms - would those same people pay the same for the LV shoes without the LV branding? Doubtful.

I bet technodup has a monochrome car. I'm going with silver Audi with black leather interior. A white house, cream carpet, black or brown leather sofas.

BORING!
I've got a bright red sofa an ex persuaded me to buy rather than the black I wanted. Swap Audi for Jag and you're bang on with the car though. laugh

Men's suits are pretty uniformly black, grey or blue with the occasional summer one in beige. So by and large that's what men want and/or is seen as acceptable. I don't see any difference in shoes.

Anyway and slightly against the grain I've just seen a pair of purple and black (i.e. brown) Paul Parkman I quite like. Anyone any experience of them?

Needed some new waterproof shoes for walking the dog!

Looked into expensive leather hiking shoes for £300+. Then I went the other way and looked at the best I could get for not a big cost, with a view to the fact that they would be better to use abuse and throw away!

Came up with these Karrimore Leather boots from Amazon, retail £120 the bargain price of £40 on Amazon!

has anyone had a recent dealings with Charles Tyrwhitt shoes? noticed these calf leather, made in UK etc for £150 which seems reasonable compared to other shoes i liked the look of. Does anyone know who is making their shoes? to my very amateur eye CT shoes look very similar to the Herring shoe range by Cheaney

And as for the brogue question, I don't get it either. I don't see people out there wearing them as often as you'd expect given this thread.
'tis very strange...dont see anyone wearing brogues in my day to day life, let alone anyone spending 2-400 on a pair of shoes, but then again if you look at the "show us your house" thread how many 2 bed terraced Pye homes do you see? Does seem to be slightly elitist in here nowadays...
You're new. This is PH. Look at some of the original members Trevor.

I believe it's been mentioned before that you can ask CT the maker of the particular shoe in question and they will tell you. I know loake make some of their shoes.

I have a pair of Tyrwhitt branded shoes, they're excellent - on a par with church or cheaney IMO.
It's been suggested mine are of Loake manufacture; if they are they're 1880 quality.

Inflated RRP to make it look a "bargain". I doubt if they'll last long. wink

You might me right, hence my decision to take a punt on them at £40!

However they do seem like a surprisingly good quality item, and very waterproof too, as the torrential rain we have had for the last three days has put them to the test.

They are pretty comfortable Too, and a nice fit, i bought them at size 10.5 which is 0.5 over my standard size, which the feedback recommended, and they are a very good fit indeed..

Let's be honest, for £40 I was. It expecting a lot, but they are fine!

Karrimor are just a Sports Direct brand now I'm afraid. Walk into their stores and pretty much everything is 70% off, so you rapidly come to ignore the RRP. There have been articles on TV and in newspapers about their sailing rather close to the legal wind in their pricing and advertising. What it all boils down to is buying the right item for you at a good price, then all's well!

Started looking at brogues for work due to this thread. Bought two pairs of these: http://www.dunelondon.com/rubeus-heavy-toecap-deta... from Dune and they were shocking quality. The eyelets on my brown pair broke as soon as I tied them up for the first time, and my black ones are already falling apart three months down the line!

I've now 'invested' in a pair of Cheaney Ewans which look lovely, and fell within my £150 budget surprisingly, found an absolute bargain on Jones Bootmaker website, they seem to be at least £200 elsewhere. This is my first foray into 'proper' shoes, thanks to you lot, and very excited!

Looking to spend another £100ish on a black pair of oxfords or derbys, preferably on amazon as I have £90 credit to use, feel free to make suggestions!

Has anyone ever bought Louis Vuitton shoes? I really like the look of the Greenwich Derby but don't know anything about Louis Vuitton as a shoe maker.

I've seen their shoemaking video on youtube which looks like it's great quality, but just wanted to know about first hand experience.

They look very clunky and graceless.
