I'm getting married next June so will be needing a nice pair of shoes.
I'm off to New York in 7 weeks, any chance shoes out there would be cheaper than the UK?

:HEHE: I like a lot of shoes that are posted in this thread. I'll probably just look up a store in Liverpool/ Manchester and try some on.

smile well, to my mind most decent smart shoes are european so don't see how they can be retailed more cheaply in the US, but i could be wrong (on either point)

The OH brought home some offcuts of the leathers I've chosen for my next pair.

In a deck shoe. The main colour and laces will be "waxy ruby" and the cuff and insole will be "sky blue".
Having initially cut them out my OH made the executive decision that the sky blue was "too bold" and instead changed it for Royal blue....

They are progressing well and will be ready for the weekend. Heres a shot of them with the upper stitched but no insole/sole on yet. At this stage it is yet to be lasted so only has rough shape.

The laces will be swapped out once lasted and completed.

And they're finished! Only just come off the lasts so need to leave them at least 24hours for the leather to relax a little before I can wear them. Laces cut too.

^Does your OH make her own lasts out of wood or can you buy ready made ones off the shelf?

Thanks!

The company she works for uses standard lasts (in all sizes and widths) although they modify them if required by adding material them if required for example if you have a bunion, odd shaped foot.

There are 3 of them in the workshop full time and they make between 40-50 pairs a week.

Not something I would wear, honestly. But a change from the endless stream of tan brogues.

At least the brogues are made of quality materials with real craftsman input for a very high quality product . . . . . . at an equally high price.

What I can't get over is the plethora of trainers, mass produced cheaply using cheap materials for a very cheap product . . . . . at a hideously expensive price!

Nice!

I saw the black version of these in the sales section of Debenhams. I should have bought them, but we were in a rush frown

There are many styles of brogues. From the different last they are constructed on to the style of brogue pattern - full, half, wingtip etc. takes an educated and trained eye I'll admit.

However, back to your £22 offerings - do show with full spec wink

They look well-made and good quality; crafts are always impressive to me. Might want to get her to stop using the shoes I used to wear when I was 2 years old in the 70s as inspiration though!

Not tempted to re-live some of your youth then?! hehe

Everything is so damned serious nowadays. Sometimes I just think "fk it, fk it all!"

What's wrong with owning a silly pair of shoes, bright trousers and a silly car.
