I've just received these, Carmina shoemaker's 732 cap toe Oxfords in black box calf. A bit boring after the recent plethora of 2 tone Barker brogues but I quite like them. Quality wise they seem easily as good as a pair of Cheany's I recently bought(to my untrained eyes at least) the sole having no visible stitching(closed channel stitching apparently) which must certainly take more work. Anyhoo here's a link Carmina shoemaker They don't do trainers!

I do like those but Oxfords are always too tight for me. I must have tall or boxy feet or something.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Have you tried wide fitting shoes?Does anyone else have this problem?
You might get away with a normal width shoe of the right last shape though. You just need to go somewhere to try on a whole bunch of shoes from different lasts.
ETA: Some people with high archs do wear oxfords with the lacing splayed open at the top. The don't always have to be done completely tight at the top:

i have to admit i never really knew the difference... i always thought it was something to do with pattern on the toecap! The 'closed' lacing is always a pain, you practically have to unlace some of them to get them on your feet.
In other news I dun a safir renovateur on all my leather shoes and boots last night. It really is great stuff.

Can anyone tell me what has happened to my Barker Oxfords? If you look closely at the leather it is now rough and pockmarked where it used to be shiny and smooth.
Had them a year and they are worn about 6-7 times a month; never on consecutive days. They are always rubbed down after use and have shoe cream applied before they get put in their shoe trees for next time. I try not to wear them in the wet but have been caught out a couple of times with the english weather. The shoes are about due for their first re-soling but looking at the state of them I might not bother.
Very disappointed with the quality of the leather; my old Army boots would still polish up well after 8 years of use and abuse.
