I already have them and just doubled up on them though so in no rush
I know you love your trainers, but why double-up? FreeLitres said:
The Northampton factory shops are well worth a visit. Be aware of the opening times though and plan your visit. For example, some do not open on a weekend (Trickers?) and some only open friday afternoon and saturday morning I think. Barkers shop is massive and you will definately find something you like there.
Thanks, I visited Church's, Barker, and Cheaney in that order.Church's had a poor selection IMO, though the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly - rather shocked at the size of the factory as I simply didn't think they churned out the amount of shoes that they do.
Barker was a much better selection but maybe everyone is my size as there was nothing decent left and I'm an 11 so it's not like I have elephant feet. I think with Barker my biggest surprise was simply how big the factory is given it's tucked away in such a small village.
Thankfully I saved the best until last and the Cheaney shop was an absolute delight as were the staff. I was a little weary when I arrived simply because the factory shop looks a bit like an old abandoned building from the outside but once you go in it's an Aladdin's cave.
So 3 pairs of Cheaney's later and it's probably the most legal mugging imaginable - I will be going back at some point

Any photos to share? I'd love to check it out someday. You should gone to Crockett & Jones too.
C&J are only open on a Friday I believe. No photos of the stores but if you Google it and look on Google Images there are some of Barker and Cheaney. I honestly was disappointed at the selection at Church's but maybe it's just me and expectations.
Pics of the shoes, smartphone job so nothing spectacular:
Ladies work shoes/boots? oh come on it is Christmas after all and those presents won't buy themselves will they?
My wife has hinted that she needs new work shoes boots so I am looking for options. She would never spend more than 100-120 pound or so on her own work shoes but she does attend some fairly high level meetings so I am sure she would appreciate a really good pair for those occasions.
I know Church's C&J, Cheaney etc make ladies shoes now so any suggestions on what make? I am loathe to buy some of the fashion brands as they are not only more expensive (500+) but they look as though they would not last 5mins trudging through London streets in January.
In reality I only need to be there or thereabouts with the styling as I am sure she will probably exchange them anyway! It is nice to open something on the day though isn't it?

Unless your missus is a member of the WI, a butch lesbian, a prison officer, over 60 or visiting us from 1937 I'd forget about buying shoes from those makers.Russell and Bromley, LK Bennett, Kurt Geiger and Hobbs are some suggestions. Personally I'd start with Russell and Bromley and go from there.

She is not an empty headed essex type and appreciates quality when she sees it. I will mull it over and might take a look down Jermyn street next week to have a look and take advice.

But, shooting from the hip here, I think the market for women's shoes is different from that for men and you are thinking like a bloke.
You might find pleasure in a pair of Church's brogues that last for ten years and which you can polish weekly, using expensive polish and labelled brushes from the polished wooden box you keep especially to store your "shoe maintenance equipment". You might shed a little tear when one day you have to buy a new pair. You will probably throw away the old pair a year later.
Your other half might prefer 3 pairs of shoes costing half the price (female maths)....plus a couple of pairs of "best" shoes....and something suitable for cocktail parties. Outside of a quick splash with protector spray and trip to Timpsons to get new heel rubbers she will have no interest in maintenance. She will think nothing of throwing them away in two years because they are already "so last year".
Remember:
has anyone here worn/owned espadrilles? I never have, wondering if they are comfy or not as I am really tempted by a pair of these for my holiday instead of a pair of white converse low.
