The brown brogues are badged as Herring on the soles because Cheaney make/made Herring's own "english handmade" range.

The blacks are badged as New & Lingwood on the soles and would appear to be £375 on the N&L website, though the same shoe with "Cheaney" on it seems to be a bargain £315

Ditto the loafers, £315 rrp.

Either way, a bit of a steal if you ask me, the only downside is there's no easy way to know what they'll have in your size until you're physically there.

Fortunately I live in Northampton, so not much of a drive for me. I need to get myself to these shops. The only shop I've been to is the factory shop in Olney, which stock a variety of shoes, including Loake (who don't have a factory shop annoyingly).

You might find pleasure in a pair of Church's brogues that last for ten years and which you can polish weekly, using expensive polish and labelled brushes from the polished wooden box you keep especially to store your "shoe maintenance equipment". You might shed a little tear when one day you have to buy a new pair. You will probably throw away the old pair a year later.

Your other half might prefer 3 pairs of shoes costing half the price (female maths)....plus a couple of pairs of "best" shoes....and something suitable for cocktail parties. Outside of a quick splash with protector spray and trip to Timpsons to get new heel rubbers she will have no interest in maintenance. She will think nothing of throwing them away in two years because they are already "so last year".

Milano X SlamJam consortium arrived today. Pretty sure they are 1/390 as the other consortium are

Are coloured laces (blue) acceptable on a tan brogue (specifically Barkers Grant)? Seen them on a darker shoe and they looked really nice, not sure about on the lighter ones though.

i wear TOMS espadrilles a lot. they're comfortable enough and imo look better than flip flops or trainers when in tailored shorts and a shirt. far better than the alternative anyway - boat shoes!

I'm not 100% sure on the 390 but the are from the same collection as the Solebox Berlin, SNS Stockholm etc and they are all 1/390, I know Hanon I think it was listed loads on there site a few months back they found in there stockroom for £49 and they was snapped up instantly which is why there is more kicking about it seems

But you are not 'I'. Buy a set of laces. Take your shoes with you to check the colours. Only you can decide really. Significant (or insignificant) other may be of assistance in the final decision. They tend to notice men's shoes more than most men.

My third pair of Loakes, but my first pair of 1880 Loakes. So far am very VERY happy with them.

Sorry to drag this up Stu but how do you find the fit of these? I've just bought a pair in my normal size 9 and when i first tried them on, i couldn't get my heels into the heels of the boots. After a bit of wraggling i got them on and they fit perfectly.

I know they'll break in and stretch a touch so it'll get easier and i intend to get a long show horn but i just wanted to hear your opinion on the fitting.

For what it's worth, i do have rather broad / Flintstone feet...
