my last pair... In 1996 I bought 10 pair of these from Royal Mail for £5 a pair... I was working at the warehouse at the time and they over ordered, and sold them off to employees cheap...

Since than I have worn nothing else... I always have three pair on the go, garage/garden... going out... wedding and funeral.

Always wearing the same shoes does my wife's head in!

They are special.
They are, thank you! Funny, my wife says I am special....

I would be nervous of buying shoes without at least trying sample shoes from the same last.
I happen to know of two Barker lasts fit me like a dream, and would happily order shoes online made from those lasts. But they have others that would be murder for my feet (having tried them in the shop).
Yeah me to normally but thinking of taking a punt its not a huge amount of money

Did anyone actually order some shoes from Austin Reed? I wonder if they will arrive? whistle
I didn't order shoes but did order some other items on Sunday. Everything is on credit card so if they don't arrive it's no drama

I think the huge Royal Mail logo on the rear quarters really sets them off.

Are you sure it is the fact you wear the same ones all the time or the fact it is those?

I accept that people have different taste but wearing those to weddings and funerals!!

Really?

Even wearing them out is a bit "Special needs" they are truly awful, except when worn for their intended purpose.

This has to be a joke.

Yeah but they're easier to scrub bits of broken prostitute off than normal shoes.

This post is amazing.

As for content. Me and the Mrs are currently wearing...

Loake 1880/Louboutin.

I also have a preposterous sneaker collection but I don't think it'd interest anyone here, haha!

Please tell me you have a picture of you in a suit wearing those, for example at a wedding as you suggest.

Out of genuine curiosity, why did you invest £50 in 10 pairs of these shoes? With the greatest of respect, it clearly wasn't for fashion purposes.

Don't your calf muscles ache after wearing those for a few hours?

Well... I had already had a couple of pairs, supplied as part of my job, and they were the most comfortable shoes I had ever had. I always struggled with shoes... I was born with defects in both of my ankles and I found these really good, they are designed for walking (hence postmen use them) So when the opportunity came up to buy 10 pair, I did, and they have served me well. Not a fashion statement no, but practical, comfortable, and cheap footwear.

As an aside, I was booked in for surgery on my ankles 15 years ago... but it would have been 6 months recovery on each leg... 4 to 6 separate operations... success rate of 80%, but that was for each leg... So I had a third opinion from a top orthopaedic consultant and he said leave it alone due to the risk of failure (first one said leave it alone... second said operate) So I consigned myself to a life of knee, ankle and back pain and pain killers if I walked far...

Then two years ago I went to see a guy who made Orthotics... I had already had LOADS made in the past on the NHS, none worked, some made things worse. This guy used new technology... a 3D scan of my feet, with the insoles milled on a machine out the back... It was expensive, but I gave it a go.

The first insoles were a revelation. I went from suffering quite severe pain after walking 1 mile in a day, to being able to walk 5 miles with greatly reduced pain! I was happy, but he wanted to try to improve it more... so he made me another set, with more correction, but these were a step to far, but the third set were perfect. On holiday I was walking 10 miles a day, with virtually no pain.

Its a life changer for me... I have just gone 60 and wish I had found this guy earlier in my life...
