For obvious reasons I've chosen a non-carpeted room.
No, I don't have elephantiasis in my left knee. It's because my knee is closer than my feet (see Father Ted for a full explanation of the difference between small and far away).
No, those aren't the trousers I'll be wearing with them.
What can possibly go wrong...
I will no doubt get a flaming for this however the sockless look is one that I particularly dislike. It comes across as trying too hard to appear laid back and cool; plus the idea of sweating directly into my shoes is not a pleasant one. No, I don't have elephantiasis in my left knee. I can think of no other item of clothing that is so readily omitted (or accepted as being so) from an outfit in the name of style than socks.

I am so confused.

I posted that photo to illustrate the (seemingly impossible) point that you can be well-dressed whilst wearing shoes with tassels - I could have found others but that was the first I came across. Had the task of posting a photo of a well dressed man without the caveat he must be wearing tassel loafers been posed then I would not have chosen that photo or any photo involving tassels (or indeed loafers).
I still maintain that he is well dressed but that doesn't mean he doesn't look like he is trying too hard but as he is a model that is undoubtedly the case and to be expected.
Suede or fabric loafers (such as in the photo) on the other hand are more suited to the sockless look if that is your style whereas the polished calf loafers are more formal and look better with socks in my opinion.

I don't disagree with you actually, though I would add in the structure of the shoe as another factor. I have some stiff suede loafers that look better with socks and some softer ones that look better without. Not sure what socks to wear with those tan shoes and very pale blue narrow trousers. Suggestions?

Just about everything? No, I don't have elephantiasis in my left knee. It's because my knee is closer than my feet (see Father Ted for a full explanation of the difference between small and far away).

I have noticed when popping one's head into shoe shops in the more provincial towns/cities, there is a distinct lack of men's loafers on show.
Whereas a wander down Jermyn Street, at this time of year, one will find several pairs in the window displays in every shoe shop. I have even noted men wearing them in London with some frequency
Clearly it is more of a regional style thing.
I have never owned a pair myself, but might well consider them for certain occasions, but for me the no socks option would be unlikely.
Personally, I usually find a nicely designed tassel loafer more stylish than the much more common penny loafer.

The problem is the trousers are so light as to be almost off-white. Lighter would probably mean white, and I am not Michael Jackson.
Ah I see - you have set yourself a conundrum there then... I still maintain that patterned is the way to go but as for colour/shade it is difficult without seeing the trousers and loafers together.
Maybe think towards the same colour as the jacket/shirt so not as to introduce too many colours?
It may well be that no socks is preferred in this instance though.

I think air force blue socks might look too whacky and if white is going to be on show in the ankle area, it probably needs to be my skin.
How do you suppose a mid blue pocket square and similar colour socks might work?

Do you think we need a new thread?
