What trousers would you wear with those? Probably a silly question, but I normally only go for brown/tan shoes.

I'd wear them with a suit for work, but that's just me.

Are those JW shoes available online anywhere? I've never seem them before. And lately all of their shoes seem to have 4 diamonds on the heel which I really don't like.

The shoes I bought off ebay and they have worn weekly for nearly 3 years assorted weathers.
Yes I knowthe colour is Aubergine.
I have worn them for a wedding with a navy suit but most ofter wear them with jeans or occasionally chinos.
I have a pair of Navy blue JW boots with red laces that look good with jeans too.
They were secondhand hardly worn you just have to visit ebay every few days.
The ones with diamonds on the heel are a cheaper range and then cheaper still are the M&S autograph range which both are not in the same quality.

Fact of the day - That brogue style wing cap without the hole punching is called an "austerity brogue".

I guess these are technically Suede austerity brogue chukka bootscoffee

That's what I was going to say. whistle.

Thought they were worth a punt though for £40 after my last pair of boots started to fall apart.

life's too short for snug fit. Get the next size up.
Like them though, could use something similar myself.

I would like to offer an alternative opinion here, with respect, as it may well have been yourself that informed me on the "austerity brogue" originally.

The pictured shoes lack the punched holes (brogueing), but do in fact appear to have a 'toe cap'.
My understanding was that the overlaid leather was the missing feature of the austerity brogue versus the brogue, rather than the lack of punched holes, which is actually a feature of the austerity brogue?

A third opinion on this very important matter.

The brogued surface on any shoe should be backed with finished leather so that the leather underneath is of the same colour and standard as the top when visible through the perforations. With an austerity brogue this extra level of work (as well as the actual brogueing itself) is not required so they were cheaper to make and consequently worn during periods of austerity.

My understanding was that it was this lack of brogueing rather than addition of a wing cap that qualifies a shoe as an austerity brogue (though whether you can have a "true" brogue without a wing cap is another matter). The shoe must follow the same aesthetic as a "brogue" which is I think where any definition falls down somewhat.

I should imagine the most widely accepted style of a "full" brogue would be a wing cap derby with every cut edge being brogued and gimped - a shoe in this style minus the brogueing would almost certainly qualify as an austerity brogue. There are of course also semi-brogues and quarter brogues and it is at this point the boundaries become blurred. Some makers market their shoes as brogues if there is even the tiniest amount of brogueing such as an otherwise plain oxford with brogueing on the toe cap (quarter brogue) but clearly such a shoe without the brogueing would not qualify as an austerity brogue.

I would term the above footwear as Suede wing cap chukka boots.

I love the fact that this latest turn of footwear conversation will have certain threadists foaming at the mouth with fury that, a) some of us know this stuff, and that b) some of us care.

Been after a smart ankle boot for a while, my preferred footwear when not wearing my Nike 95 airmax.
Missed out on Firetraps Westley design, which I really liked.
Found these.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0082MJ52M/ref...
But I balk at the price.

I don't like them at all, the square toe looks odd.

Anyone have any Peter Werth shoes/boots? They keep popping up and look reasonable.
