It's a relief to hear you calling them "stupid avantgarde sneakers", because I don't feel as bad about thinking they're mental looking. I actually like cork AM90s (one of the few c/ws I like alongside Infrared) but could never see myself in a pair of Geobaskets.

Then again I smile at the dazzling array of different coloured stripes one can have on one's '80s Adidas trainer, so perhaps you've got the better approach.

Margiela Chelsea boots and loake 1880 oxfords are on current rotation so don't panic I'm not totally stupid.
