Are the top pair black or very dark brown?
They're are black, although dark brown would also be good.
Agreed. Where did you get them from?
Mine are from Thread.com, they're called Diemme Veneto Low.
Thanks

A pair of leather Chuck Taylor's

Very good for deadlifts, also squats if one has good ankle mobility.
I'll take your word for it, although the furthest thing from my mind when I bought them.

I've got the black canvas version and that's what I use them for.

Are they superbly made or is it just a brand name thing that makes them worth £170?

I can't quite see the value in paying silly money for trainers :-/
Would you pay as much for a pair of trainers as you would for a pair of shoes? These are not for sports or walking the dog, so I’ll treat them more like shoes than traditional trainers. I also paid a little less as they were on offer.

I certainly didn’t pick them for the name as I’d never heard of the company before and they have virtually no branding, though I’ve been sucked in by the blurb on their website to believe they are a premium product. http://www.diemmefootwear.com/articles

They were delivered yesterday and do appear to be very well made, though only time will tell if they last. I do prefer them to the white Common Projects pair which were more expensive and will be going back, possibly to be replaced with a white pair of Diemmes.

The much vaunted austerity brogue.

I particularly like the Beaulieu model and it's nice to see someone posting Northampton's finest. thumbup

You seem to have bought quite a lot lately. Any more plans or is that it (for now wink)?

I've got a 'trendy' pair of...not sure, miu or something (I also have similar but no heel cover...basically an old style pump!), but they've been superseded by my VFFs and my OL shoes. Saying that, I've not deadlifted for 8 months now. I'm a machine user!!! biggrin

Reading that, they do sound a bit spesh, made in Italy too smile

One of the running Steve's said a while back that anything over £60 for trainers is for name alone, but that must have been back in the 80's.

Shoes in Deuchmans can cost £20, some on here a lot more. I suppose it just comes down to what one is willing to spend. I grumbled mightily at my (only Nike item ever purchased) 95 airmax, but they were what I wanted at the time...still my fave footwear 18 months later.
But I do believe they are starting to get that 'trainer squeak'. Not entirely sure.

I found the quality of my Ted Bakers to be absolutely toilet. Two pairs fell apart in quick succession!

I've got 2 pairs of their Sealls boots, the brown ones I've had for around 2 years and the black for about a year. Both still in 1 piece and wearing nicely.

My grandma had something similar during her nursing home era. She said they were very comfortable.

They look like something that comes from the little catalogue you get in Sunday newspapers. Probably found next to the tartan double slipper.
