What age bracket are you in? Genuine question.
Early 40s.

wow that's quite a price inflation from £2300 then to £4000 now for a pair bespoke John Lobb.

There's a documentary on BBC4 iplayer called Handmade: By Royal Appointment -2. John Lobb Shoes BBC Documentary which ends at 9pm tomorrow.

You can watch it here:

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

You can never be too old for red Converse, but you're always too young for a blazer wink

Love a blazer, can't think of a single outfit that would benefit from bright red trainers unless you're in a circus, or under 5tongue out

If that's your idea of stylish, then we're at different ends of a thankfully very large spectrum smile

I have to admit, I agree with this. Red, black and white are probably the three most iconic colours - but my favourite is probably the black low-top since the highs have absurdly long laces. Does that change with the Chuck II highs?

No, it doesn't!

I usually don't lace the top 2 pairs of holes and wrap them around the ankle before tying.

They're taking a bit of time to break in - got a blister on the achilles on my left foot - so I'm in my Adidas HB Speziales tonight smile

Tommy Lee one of the last people on the planet I would receive dress style advice from, along with being one of the last people on the planet I would want to even vaguely resemble.

I played basketball all through the 70s. No one wore reds that I ever saw. No doubt some NBA players will have done at the time, but they got paid to do it. Black or white were the choice.

I'm surprised anyone was playing in Chucks in the 1970s - they were a 60-odd year old shoe even back then.

A quick google suggests most professionals were wearing Adidas Superstars in the 70s.

Probably. By the late 70s most of us were wearing Nike or Adidas. Much more comfortable and a lot easier on the feet when running on hardwood floors. Quite a bit more expensive too, so a few players still had the trusty Converse.
The Chucks weren't considered a classic then, just a bit embarrassing; out of fashion don't you know smile
