I tried a pair of the Loake Pimlico in their shop in Bath. Far too stiff/rigid to be classed as a desert boot imo.
Didn't see the Sahara though - maybe next time.

Did you lift these off a dead tramp? They look like the sort of thing a charity shop would throw away.

Correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding was that desert boots had a crepe rubber sole (rather than the typically more formal construction of a chukka).

Given that, I'd consider the Pimlico a chukka.

Loake's Sahara range is a 'true' desert boot.

Anyone have any recommendations for some decent desert boots - normal 'sand' colour ideally, but open to suggestions
As above.

Or consider the original from Clarks.

Indeed, pimlico is a chukka. They are very stiff to start but break in after a few weeks.

I'm loving my C&J tetburys though. Comfiest chukka I've had yet

And yet the most disturbing thing is still the oversized doily on the table.

Those actually look nice but surely desert boots don't have leather soles?

Haven't heard the word doily in about forty years.

Haven't seen one in that time either.

Yes I think a "true" desert boot is on the crepe rubber sole, but many manufacturers seem to call a suede chukka boot a desert boot regardless of sole material. Some models have both crepe and leather options.

I'm not a huge fan of crepe soles myself, so personally I'd be considering other sole types which allow for heel replacements, etc.

New addition should be arriving tomorrow. I seem to be moving away from my usual choice of casual/classic 'adidas original' type to more sporty pairs in recent months.
What have you gone for? Those sweet, sweet Size? exclusive Dragons or something a bit more modern in style?

Speaking of Adidas trainers, my most recent pickup was the new release of the Gazelle (a resurrection of the 1991 shape). I'm at the point where I'm not sure if there's a style I really fancy at the moment. I'd love a pair of Athen or Trimm Star but they rarely come up for sale and there's no way I'm paying £120+.
