There's nowt wrong with light tan brogues but never, ever with a suit. I have a lot of Italian work colleagues who thought it appropriate to wear light tan shoes with a suit, it has taken me a long time to wean them off such a sartorial disaster!
Why? As far as I can tell, only the Brits seem to have this aversion against tan shoes with suits. On the continent it's really quite normal, be it in Italy, France, Holland or Scandinavia. And it looks better, 99% of the time.

Why the Brits seem think that this view needs exporting is beyond me.
I agree with NAS 100%.

Stylish Europeans very much like tan or brown shoes with a suit, and I think it looks very smart. So much so that I wore tan Loake's with a dark blue suit to a wedding recently.

Tan/brown shoes are probably more versatile than black shoes. It's just us Brits that seem terrified of wearing anything but black shoes.

This is worth a read: http://www.asuitthatfits.com/offthecuff/brown-shoe...
Each to his own I suppose but it's not necessarily stylish! It strikes against convention/etiquette and style - I still view this as a sartorial disaster

At least he has tried to match his shoes to his tan.

No, there isn't an image on that page that looks right. Ironic, then, that it's a page owned by "A Suit That Fits".

in the spectrum of sartorial sins, tan shoes with a dark suit is not the absolute worst. I guess it's amongst the worst that people who consider themselves well-dressed might commit... but again, bit of perspective! You've only got to go to a car show to have a reality check...

You mean a Subaru jacket and ill-fitting jeans isn't the height of fashion? I think you're the one who needs a reality check. biggrin

Anyway, I bought a pair of Janoski Zoom earlier today. They seem fine on, but what initially drew me to them was the stitching around the toebox. I like certain details in that area for some reason (I like the Adidas Milano for much the same reason).

Brown shoes with a sharp suit = instant hot chick on your arm.

The important point being that he bothered to match his belt to his shoes.

A decent suit shouldn't have a belt

Now now Craig, even on PH (snobbishness matters smile) a few will be reduced to buying off the peg.

Today, most people use the TV series Mad Men to demonstrate classic suit styles.
We had this guy;

Sorry, this is a shoe thread;

Agreed Bill smile If you want to look your best though you will want that peg suit tweaked and while they are doing that having the belt loops removed and a set of side adjusters made costs next to nothing or, a rising style, have te belt loops removed and brace buttons fitted inside the waistband and go with a set of good braces. Belt loops identify a peg suit immediately and there are ways to disguise this for best look.

Agreed. But that's not a decent suit.

I'm assuming you went to a "special" school with the other window lickers and have little to no knowledge about anything.

I must say, whilst that jacket (coat for the bespoke crowd) doesn't look like a perfect fit, I do like that outfit.

As soon as I become a young, tall good-looking black dude I intend to buy one just like it.

I'm guessing they're durable enough then! Shoes with a herringbone pattern outsole always do seem to last well, now that I think about it.

rofl

Trabi is one of the posters that makes this thread for me. He's good at getting this sort of reaction out of people over their shoes. Speaking of which, what are they anyway? I don't think they look all that awful, personally.

I quite like those. But I'm definitely more of an Adidas fanboi, so will stick with my HB Speziale for now.

Although I do have a pair of the re-release Air Cross Mids that Nike did a couple of years ago. So, so 80s.

I'd say the majority of my collection is Adidas as well, but I do have more Nike trainers than I did a year ago. There are a pair or two fit for the bin, like a pair of Cortez where the sole is splitting (I gravitate towards 'heritage' styles), but the majority of my collection is in blue boxes with three stripes.

The Spezial is one style I don't have though I remember seeing a really striking pair in Bluebird, with the gum sole. If that's still available I might be persuaded to open the wallet. I don't think I could pull off the Nikes you've posted though!
