the RM Williams shape
Is weird, clumpy and really not very nice to look at.

Likewise John Lobb. Can't see the attraction.
I prefer them, they look far less effete than the more refined versions which are effectively dress shoes with high sides.

Interesting point. Do any makers have boot specific lasts?

The only necessary differences are that the top of the boot last should be higher (I think it's called the cone but it was 20-odd years ago I was told this stuff & am probably wrong!)

I have been living in these for the last couple of weeks, well impressed with them.

Geox, Mattias boot.
It is part of their Amphibiox (sp?) range, they still have holes in the soles to let your feet breathe but also waterproof. And they work, really impressed.

Oh, and seriously comfy!!!

Nice, just ordered the brown ones smile (browsing this thread can be expensive...)

I popped into the Geox outlet store in Ashford yesterday. Picked up these bad boys:

I don't think I've ever had a pair of shoes/trainers that have been so comfortable right from the first wear. Nice discount at the outlet too!

Turns out I have a rather large hole in the sole of my Loakes!

What's the best place to go for re-soling? Loake are after £80 but seem to offer a full job?

I've sent mine back to Loake a couple of times and was very impressed with the result. They even polish the shoes up nicely!

Same here, it's worth it in my opinion.

You can have a cheaper repair done but a proper refurbishment is more than that and worth it for decent shoes.

You also maintain a Loake warranty etc.

Not sure how much a Timpsons etc is but it always seems sensible to send them back to the maker. They practically remake them.

They've also made a rather pleasant video to convince you https://youtu.be/yhGNHcwO9zI

I had a pair of Design Loake repaired locally, new heels and part soles cost £40 - the job is ok but in terms of value I reckon the factory job is good value at £80. My black Loake's are going back soon - might even ask for a change to the Dainite sole..

I am very sad I didn't use the factory repair service on my favourite shoes, not loake, but I found when next time I did fancy the factory service they wouldn't do it because they didn't like the timpson soles.

Yes, I have heard that if you have modified your leather sole with a rubber cover or metal taps/plates, or if anyone else has worked on repairing your shoe, then the factory may well refuse the resole work.

Seems reasonable that they don't want someone else's potential problem as theirs.

He who last touched it broke it.

Done deal then.

Wish I had the box to send them back in though, and also wish they were a bit older to really utilise it!
