I picked these up after stumbling across this thread, Cheaney Arthur III in tan, obviously!

I too have a pair of these. Been back for refurb once and better than new. They had quoted £85 and six working weeks but charged me £75 and returned in four weeks. biggrin

Ok team, my chosen boots are finally here. They're beautiful, but they have leather souls.
So before they venture out from my warm carpets into the big wide world, is there any heather care I should do?
Advice on maintenance welcome as I don't have in memory any experience of leather bottomed footwear.
We will never agree on shoe style it seems Halb smile

Referring you back to this old thread;
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I'll just repeat myself in brief;
I always treat the soles of new leather shoes with gun stock oil

It will waterproof the soles, and keep them supple through multiple soaking and drying out cycles.
A light coat allowed to dry for 12 hours seems to be enough, but as winter approaches, two applications won't do any harm.
The soles will certainly last longer having been treated.
I did try some silicone spray for soles once. I may as well have dunked them in water for all the good that did.

For heavy outdoor use, I recommend (as per the thread above), buying a large knife, heading to Canada, and building a decent little cooking fire in preparation...
If you survive, you will have a great story for the grand children biggrin

Why are the toecaps darker? Have you been sticking your feet into a vagina but not taking your boots off? It is considered polite to take them off.

I'm almost overjoyed I missed the Athen since Gary Aspden shared this pic of the Samba Spezial. I'm sure they'll sell out in seconds as well but I can see why! I'll be curious how they compare to the standard Samba Super.

New ones over the last few weeks.

Puma Speed Cats (as per the other thread)

Caterpillar boots (have a nice gel pouch in the heal, very comfy)

Pair of Barbour's

Also got a pair of És skateshoes a few months ago as comty daily shoes, I used to have them in my teens for skateboarding, haven't done it in over 10 years but got nostalgic biggrin

Just don't get this.

I see lots of people saying these expensive shoes 'will last a lifetime' (or similar!) - yet they send them away to be refurbed at a cost that will buy a couple of pairs of decent looking shoes from the Clarks outlet.

The uppers mould to your feet and are super comfy and handmade things are nice to own.

I see the value in it

You are in danger of confusing cost and value there.

No shoes will last a lifetime without resoling that is part of the ownership experience of proper shoes - you don't scrap your car when your tyres wear out do you? Proper shoes will withstand a lifetime's worth of resoling and heeling, lesser quality shoes won't and even lesser quality shoes are designed to be disposed of once the soles are worn.

Yes, but the refurbs cost as much as 2 pairs of new shoes. That is just insanity.

I don't scrap the car when it needs tyres, because the tyres don't cost twice as much as the car!

But then I don't get the whole thing about brown brogues. I don't own a pair, can't think of any reason to own a pair, and certainly wouldn't want a pair that will last decades.

For trudging about in winter and for messing about doing snowy things in Trondheim in January, I bought these to replace my ancient and stinking TNF Chilkats:

Cannot describe how comfy they are. Like sliding your feet into a vagina.
How hot do they make your feet or are they quite breathable? I've been considering the Terrex goretex ones which somebody else on here bought a while back but these could be another option.

The same as 2 pairs of cheap nasty shoes.

A Ferrari driver *could* buy a whole car for the price of a set of tyres.

If you have a £20k bespoke sofa you have it re-upholstered. If you have a £200 IKEA sofa you put it in the bin. Craftsmanship has value. Much as I dislike most of the brown brogues here I still recognise the difference between a British hand made leather shoe and a mass produced factory outlet special from Clarks.

Again you are confusing cost and value.

Comparing the refurb of a high end shoe with the outright purchase of a low end shoe is comparing apples to oranges.

The tyres of no (new) car are worth twice the cost of the car to which they are attached so your argument falls down somewhat. You could buy a nice car for the cost of a set of tyres on a Veyron SS for example though that wouldn't be much use to a Veyron SS owner who wants some new tyres would it?

They stay warm. You'll probably want to get some shoe bananas for them if you're going to be using them a lot...
