Is anyone familiar with Scarosso?
Looking for some taupe chelsea boots, but have no experience with the brand. Look well made though.

I actually had a dream about walking in my boots in the snow, and worrying about the damage, before my gun oil had arrived!!
I'm thinking of these as my more hardy winter boots for more knockabout stuff.
As argued in the other thread, leather soles (even oiled) are unlikely to provide as much protection as well made rubber / dainite soled shoes or boots.I'm thinking of these as my more hardy winter boots for more knockabout stuff.
The worst thing, aside from the general seepage of water through the sole, will be that road salt will likely be carried with the water and leave white stains on the upper.
White vinegar and water will normally do a reasonable job of removing this, but it does mean cleaning this off as soon as you get in, and reapplying wax or dubbin after it's dried.
Oiling the sole, in my experience at least, (while ensuring to get a light coat on the side of the sole as well), should all but eliminate the wicking effect, but it won't prevent splashing.
Of course, as mentioned several times, here and on the other thread, shoe rotation is important in any case. So you will ideally need a second pair anyway.
There. I've made your case for you. You may now purchase without guilt
I had a disappointing shoe shopping session on Jermyn Street today. I anticipated that the traditional English makers would have an interesting selection of shoes (I wanted rubber soles) however most of their stuff was dull.
Trickers - looked like it needed a refurb about forty years ago but still waiting. The stock looked quite staid, the staff suicidal.
Loake - dismally small selection of the full range, limited colours and many sizes out of stock.
Edward Green, Church's and John Lobb dull as dishwater.
Crockett and Jones had some decent stuff and managed a full three minutes before dropping into conversation that they supply shoes to the Bond movies. Their Hallam and Norwich shoes were a consideration but the brown was a tad dark for my requirement. I may yet buy some.
As so often is the case, when I cannot find what I want Russell and Bromley has something close. I picked up these. Not the last word in quality but not bad and the right sole / colour combo for my requirement.

My only disappointments when shopping in Jermyn Street have been my bank balance But I know what you mean. Somehow when you have a specific in mind, it's never available, though you saw one last week...

I bought half a size smaller in the shoes above on the advice of the shop manager. He had the larger ones but felt the smaller ones would stretch a tad. They are quite soft calf leather, so I suspect he is right.

Other than the traditional timberlands, anyone recently bought any Desert / chukka boots for the winter? looking for inspiration.
I've had Chukka boots before and they're great, I know you said other than Timberland but I was browsing outdoor and country and saw Timberlands new Grantly Chukka's, they look really decent.https://www.outdoorandcountry.co.uk/mens-timberlan...

I was referring to your "disappointing shoe shopping session on Jermyn Street" in general.
I often find that having 'something in mind' will pretty much guarantee that the 'something' doesn't exist.

I'm almost overjoyed I missed the Athen since Gary Aspden shared this pic of the Samba Spezial. I'm sure they'll sell out in seconds as well but I can see why! I'll be curious how they compare to the standard Samba Super.
