Just spotted these little beauties in the Gucci men's collection.
A rather generous dose of toe spring on those.
Don't let that put you off.

If the quality is half as good as the quality of their suits then they will be a top shoe. I've got 2x Canali suits (the only smart things I own) and the quality is second to none IMO.
AFAIK they are blake stitched construction (a la Berluti) which is quite popular in Italy where they are made.

From that picture they certainly look to be better finished than C&J and have that unusual rubber insert that I have only seen performed by Corthay (at considerable cost).

I would certainly go for a pair but wouldn't expect them to be the last word in durability. Also worth bearing in mind that re-soling blake stitched shoes can be somewhat laborious and expensive.
Berluti is a French company.

Of all the available comments about those shoes - "Toe Spring" wouldn't have been one that came to my mind.

My daughter would have liked these.

Whilst we are on the subject of Canali shoes, am I wrong to like these?

http://www.canali.com/en_gb/shoes/black-velvet-eve...

Can't post a pic at the moment because something here seems broken!

But I can see myself wearing them with a nice formal evening smoking jacket, whilst enjoying a fine single, malt with a Cuban cigar!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with liking them. You will look a monumental pillock in the getup described but that is your call and each to their own.

Indeed, each to their own of course.

So of course they would match well with this very dapper Tux!

Suppose one has to wear something when collecting one's Chicken Tikka Massalla (vindaloo strength)

Bought these Justin Reece boots yesterday at the NEC Classic Car Show (of all places..), beautifully made and a decent price too.
I like them. Presumably one doesn't have to wait for an annual motoring event to be able to buy them?
Nope, there is a website.... https://www.justinreece.co.uk

I paid £85 for those boots which I thought was pretty good
I bought these:

which arrived during my absence overseas this week.

I've just opened them and have to say I'm impressed. They were beautifully packaged and look well made. Comfortable straight away and look smart. I'd certainly recommend tham and at £40 they seem extraordinary value.

Are you sure? I cant see any stitching on the top edge of the sole which would indicate otherwise.

Canali shoes are made my Campanile, Rome who are a relatively unknown maker who make high quality shoes. I wouldn't hesitate in buying a pair and would choose them over any English maker at that price point.

Blake stitching is not an inferior method of construction as many would have you believe - much like the term "corrected grain".

I tried a pair on yesterday at Flannels in Nottingham and it had "Goodyear Welted" printed on the sole. But I now realise they were a slightly different model. I suspect you are right about the ones above being blake stitched as there is no visible stitching.

As for them being made by Campanile, are you getting that off one of the "how to dress nice" forums? I saw that too and it may or may not be true. Italy is stuffed with small shoe makers who caan knoock out quality product, I would not be surprised if Canali's collection comprises shoes from several sources.

really, really, really hate those soles. They remind me of my school shoes from the early 90s.
I hope you'll not be too offended that I ordered them anyway!
They arrived yesterday and I really like them, only worn them briefly, but out of the box they seem reasonably comfortable though are stiff enough to need a bit of wearing in. They seem so far to fit the bill as bad weather commuting/going to meetings shoes.

What are Magnanni shoes like? I've been fighting the urge to buy some monk straps but these do look nice.

I can see an expensive shopping trip to London on the horizon; I am feeing the need for several pairs of European formal shoes.

I have set up a sign up for the next barge meet: Pistonheads Barge 1-5 Meet IV: Duxford Christmas Edition

Hopefully we will have a good showing like last year.
Great distraction for any PHers looking for an excuse to get out of the house between Christmas and New Year.

A chance to look at the museum, talk rubbish about cars, and perhaps to wear a festive jumper and show off some new shoes...
