which arrived during my absence overseas this week.

I've just opened them and have to say I'm impressed. They were beautifully packaged and look well made. Comfortable straight away and look smart. I'd certainly recommend tham and at £40 they seem extraordinary value.

Perfect footwear for this:
Yep, it might've been bus spotter bob-lad's dainite display at the last one that got me thinking.

I'm trying my best to corrupt the domestic steering committee and be at the right end of the country on the day.

If the quality is half as good as the quality of their suits then they will be a top shoe. I've got 2x Canali suits (the only smart things I own) and the quality is second to none IMO.
AFAIK they are blake stitched construction (a la Berluti) which is quite popular in Italy where they are made.

From that picture they certainly look to be better finished than C&J and have that unusual rubber insert that I have only seen performed by Corthay (at considerable cost).

I would certainly go for a pair but wouldn't expect them to be the last word in durability. Also worth bearing in mind that re-soling blake stitched shoes can be somewhat laborious and expensive.
Berluti is a French company.
Yes, but Canali aren't.
your sentence suggested you thought they were both italian companies.

What are Magnanni shoes like? I've been fighting the urge to buy some monk straps but these do look nice.

I can see an expensive shopping trip to London on the horizon; I am feeing the need for several pairs of European formal shoes.
Have 3 pairs of them. They can take long to wear in, but are very comfortable once so. The soles wear quicker than I would like them to, though.

Having a few issues with sore feet just now so needed something comfy for general wear.

Vans sk8 Hi Cup

Bit more padding and insulation for the cold.

I really liked these and I am a big fan of Vans trainers but the only colour combination I wanted was the dark purple ones, and they stop at a size 9 because (and I quote) "Even though they are a unisex trainer that colour is aimed at the womens market", it is not filtered out if you go through the mens shoe selection either.

Strange that I can't have the purple ones but if I go to the custom shop in the US and pay over the odds I still can't have the dark purple colour but can have a barbie pink pair irked

I "think" so. Quality looks good, they fit nice, just not sure when I'll wear them or what with. They are a bit dull and understated.

More than likely to be my pic, I took that straight out the box. Good luck at SNS.

I am not particularly a fan of monkstraps, nothing against them in principle, just never thought much of them; though I do own one pair in black patent.

On the other hand, I really do like the look of those.

I've been unsure about monks, but I want something that isn't another derby / oxford and which has a rubber sole. I saw those in Selfridges a while back and they looked good. I've got some coming tomorrow. However Selfridges only sells full sizes and I am strictly a 9.5.

In fact I have four pairs coming tomorrow, two of the middle and two of the bottom. The bottom ones are too long to my eye, but they will tell me something about Magnanni's sizing:

I had a Magnanni delivery this morning. Both shoes fit perfectly and I would happily wear either - though the pointy ones are a little less versatile.

Now I need to decide which pair.

I must say the finish and detail is the equal of any shoe I've handled.
