Ha, I couldn't comment! she has an old pair that look very similar, I know she'd like to replace them with something of decent quality.

a kid from my primary school had those in the 80s. The closest one is built-up a bit right?
Ha ha, you got it!

Its a pair of these but I didn't get chance to take a proper pic as they were delivered just as I was leaving for work.

They truly are horrific. There have been some horrors posted in this discussion, but I think you're the winner of the most 'special' shoes by a fair margin.
I really like them
Me too, if I wasn't Christmas broke I'd be seriously tempted.

Morning all,
I want to surprise my better half with a really nice pair of leather boots. Now, the usual suspects (Loake, Barker, Cheaney) have smaller ranges for ladies.

This is what I know she'd ideally like - although they're a touch too expensive at the moment. Anywhere else I should be looking? Budget is in the £200 max range.

Cheers

hehe

Those are very nice boots. (They don't go with what the model is wearing though.)

Do they have an outlet for end of lines etc? Perhaps the PH shoe thread members could advise?

What's wrong with you?

They're like old school hiking boots. But with a funky saw tooth sole. Perhaps he could pierce loads of little holes and stick some Harris tweed on and say they're barkers?
I was just thinking that I don't particularly like the boots but they are much, much better than the abominations that are the leather & fabric barkers.

Exactly. She doesn't want PH tan brogues or anything else from loake, cheaney or barkers for women ffs.

Women want the kind of shoes that are fashionable and fall apart after a year. All the stuff you lot scoff at.

I thought I had already obtained that honour.
You are a fickle man Trabi frown

Just a little reminder

Well, I think I might be better placed to know - any constructive input?

Good idea, thanks. I know few of the Northampton shoe makers have factory shops, shame we rarely pass that way. Maybe worth a phone call.

Perhaps it is just the women you know?

Some of us do like quality and style over fashion. The boots I posted above are from a place which I have had several pairs over the last 15 years. All of which I still wear.

But hey, this is PH, so sweeping generalisations matter eh? wink

Cheaney have a sale on right now. I noticed when I walked past their Bow Lane shop the other day. Last time they had a sale, the website didn't show the same deals, so, if you can make it to a shop or give them a call you might fin the style you want is available cheaper.

I have just received an email from Edward Green advising that their Christmas sale will be starting on 28th December with prices being cut by up to 40%.

What about Russell & Bromley or Jones? Both do a decent range at the £200 budget

Are you wanting a daily wear boot or a fancy pair (IYSWIM)?

Not yet, no. They said at the time that I would be looking at late February/early March before they would be ready to arrange a fitting with them hopefully being completed around September time.

I'll file Walsh in the same category as Belstaff.

Once great brand which used to produce value for money and high performing products, now being used to market 'retro' tat to the gullible.

Expanded PU sole in a trainer with a list price of £165?! You'd get exactly the same performance from a pair of £20 Hi-Tecs.

My big problem with almost the entire range is the expanded PU sole they use. Almost everyone has moved on from that as it goes flat in not time at all - and at that kind of money, I'd be wanting something other than the cheapest sole material available.
