I'll file Walsh in the same category as Belstaff.
Once great brand which used to produce value for money and high performing products, now being used to market 'retro' tat to the gullible.
Expanded PU sole in a trainer with a list price of £165?! You'd get exactly the same performance from a pair of £20 Hi-Tecs.
i think they look quite good but that is a lot of moneyOnce great brand which used to produce value for money and high performing products, now being used to market 'retro' tat to the gullible.

My big problem with almost the entire range is the expanded PU sole they use. Almost everyone has moved on from that as it goes flat in not time at all - and at that kind of money, I'd be wanting something other than the cheapest sole material available.Trabi601 said:

I like them and I like the fact they are still made in England - as a point of principle I am always prepared to pay extra for British made goods.
What do you think of their normal range?

You're highly accomplished at being rude and disparaging, but the value to the thread is in not being a ; show us what you buy.
I've posted what I've bought this year - Adidas HB Spezial, Converse Chuck Taylor II, 2 pairs of Adidas Boost technical running shoes. You're highly accomplished at being rude and disparaging, but the value to the thread is in not being a ; show us what you buy.

Exactly. She doesn't want PH tan brogues or anything else from loake, cheaney or barkers for women ffs.
Women want the kind of shoes that are fashionable and fall apart after a year. All the stuff you lot scoff at.
Perhaps it is just the women you know? Women want the kind of shoes that are fashionable and fall apart after a year. All the stuff you lot scoff at.
Some of us do like quality and style over fashion. The boots I posted above are from a place which I have had several pairs over the last 15 years. All of which I still wear.
But hey, this is PH, so sweeping generalisations matter eh?

I think some of you take it a bit too seriously.

a kid from my primary school had those in the 80s. The closest one is built-up a bit right?
Ha ha, you got it! Its a pair of these but I didn't get chance to take a proper pic as they were delivered just as I was leaving for work.

They're like old school hiking boots. But with a funky saw tooth sole. Perhaps he could pierce loads of little holes and stick some Harris tweed on and say they're barkers?
Always have done, always will.

Trabi certainly hands it out, but he posts his own stuff too. Nobody seriously posts pictures of shoes on a largely blokes car forum without expecting some alterative views do they? The threads been like that since page 1 back in 2012.
It's not the teasing and joshing that's the issue - as you say, this topic on this site needs alternative views to be kept in perspective - it's just the relentless smart-arse comments that get tedious. Levin said:

What category do we put Gola in? Looking at their website I'm surprised that their prices aren't half bad (factoring in the sale especially). There are Made in England Harriers for £45.Trabi601 said:
Can't see the appeal - they're pretty much on par with Adidas retro prices. Back in the day, Gola would have been half the price of Adidas and you'd have been laughed off the field if you'd turned up for a game of football in a pair of Golas.
Fair point, but the MIE aspect coupled with decent pricing surprised me. I can't remember Gola having any major credibility or heritage: the only Gola shoes I remember owning were essentially Converse. Speaking of brands from back in the day, I can't be the only person surprised to see Patrick is still going, can I?Levin said:

Most of the old brands are still out there - Sainsbury's recently did a deal on Admiral stuff and re-launched it. My other half works for them, so I've taken advantage of the JS 20% off clothing offers and her discount this year - got 1980s replica Wales and England football shirts in the summer (really nice copy of the 'Kevin Keegan' era Admiral shirt, but in cotton, rather than static attracting nylon).
I love all the old Football Casuals stuff.
Is it all made in China or UK?I love all the old Football Casuals stuff.

My mate loves all that casual stuff too. He wears it to 'scaly night' at the gay club. I love all the old Football Casuals stuff.
