But do they really look like period racing shoes? Google suggests they just wore normal shoes in the 30s
Indeed, here's the Bentley Boys in 1927. But wait a minute, that chap sitting in the middle, is he wearing Reebok trainers? Is nothing new in this world Edited by RichB on Saturday 28th January 23:11

Those Onitsuka Tigers are lovely. I'd have a pair of those.
Reebok Classics. For when you've stolen a Sierra 'Cosseh'. In a shell suit.
If you own the Sierra do you work in reverse and steal the Classics? I don't have a pair in the wardrobe but you're making me wonder if they're necessary. Reebok Classics. For when you've stolen a Sierra 'Cosseh'. In a shell suit.
When it comes to driving shoes, I really the Nike Free 5.0. They're designed to give a real natural feeling for running which translates particularly well to transmitting pedal feel. Vans aren't half bad either, and some of the styles are presentable enough that you might get away with wearing them casually. Plain white Authentics with round leather laces = presentable.
An honourable mention must also go to the Adidas Samba Super. They're not nearly as thick-soled as the rubber bumper at the front might make you think. There's a reason they're one of my go-to trainers in both navy and black.

They're a bit narrow, and they cut into my heels. Very painful.
They're nice looking, but not something I'd want to walk around all day in. The LV are much better. Possibly the rubber sole?
(I know some people hate em)
My Guccli loafers are like slippers comfort-wise and I have wide feet. However I do take half a size bigger in Gucci. Perhaps you are the same. They're nice looking, but not something I'd want to walk around all day in. The LV are much better. Possibly the rubber sole?

When I was trying them (Gucci in Bond St ) the next size up felt just a bit loose, I asked the guys advice, as I was worried they might stretch a little in use and leave them too big, and he though I'd be better off with the slightly snug size. He agreed they would loosen a little in use.
It's not a huge problem as I wouldn't wear them all day anyway. They're lovely shoes. Also discontinued.
I'm in steel toe caps at work.

Decided to get back into running. Old Asics Gel Cumulus replaced for these:
Asics make good running shoes. I recommend joining your local parkrun of you haven't already tried it. It's a free weekly timed 5k.https://www.parkrun.org.uk/
Thanks Freelitres, I'll give it a look see.
When I was a student living in Camden I had the luxury of running in Regent's Park on grass. A few years back when I restarted my running (primarily to build fitness for 5-a-side football) it had to be on pavement/road. Much much harder on the knees and I really struggled with shin splints despite appropriate stretching pre/post running, icing and NSAIDs. We'll see how it goes this time round.

Don't do what I did and put off doing your first parkrun thinking you will be too slow or not be able to get around. There are a wide range of people participating from 80 year old women to 6 year old kids. I've done over 60 runs now.
112 for me, but still barely any quicker than the day I started (although my PB is 4 minutes quicker than I'm running right now, so I hope it'll come back to me given a decent stretch without illness or injury). We always run with a tail runner these days - I've done it a number of times myself - nobody is left behind, everybody gets cheers and encouragement.
It's a brilliant concept. But you WILL fill your house with every kind of running shoe on the market.
A couple of pairs for pounding the streets in training.
Race shoes (light weight, smaller drop)
Trail shoes
Cross country shoes

I'll third this.I'm on Parkrun 51 now and when starting couldn't get round without walking but still wasn't anywhere near last. My PB is now 13 mins faster than my first one.
Back to shoes - it's a slippery slope and my shoe collection is getting ridiculous, I have 3 different types of trail shoe depending on terrain and distance as well as road and race shoes and other ones I have that I don't even wear.
