I really want to like those, but just don't know what I would wear them with. What are you planning on using them for?

I love Crockett & Jones. My favourite shoe brand at the moment. I wish they had a few more retail outlets.

When I was in their London store recently I liked the designs but the quality of the finishing was poor.

Compared to what though? Also, what kind of quality issues were you seeing?

Popped into C&J, Jermyn Street this morning to pick up some shoes I was having repaired and ended up buying a pair of Islay boots.

Compared to Shoezone. Insoles crooked and sole units finished wonky. I posted an image earlier in this thread.

Chaps, I've lurked on this thread for a few weeks to get some shoe inspiration. I'm not a man of fashion at all, but recently ordered a new suit as I figured I'm getting to an age where I should put a bit more of an effort in at events such as weddings. I needed some shoes to go with it and on some advice I read here, checked out TK Maxx.

I ordered some of the following : http://www.tkmaxx.com/mens-shoes/tan-cap-toe-oxfor..., as I liked the colour and design, but I'm having some buyers remorse! Having done some Googling and coming across some results including on this very thread (see below), I'm concerned I've paid over the odds. Are there any suggestions for a similar design from a different company, which may be of a better quality for similar money?

Ultimately I'm happy with the look of the shoes and they fit and are comfortable, so if there isn't much difference I don't have an issue. Not being too savvy with fashion though, I thought I'd check here.

They are not. They are part of their budget range that they sell through other retailers at around £130. Jeffery West do this too and they are completely different in terms of quality of materials and manufacture to what you get in the proper range.
Thanks for the info Craig. I think we suspected as much, good to get confirmation.

To your knowledge, are they goodyear welted at least?

George Webb was a Northampton manufacturer that closed down in 1980 and Barkers bought the remains and use the brand as a budget option. They were well known in the 60s and 70s
Are they made in the BArkers factory then? Same line/leathers?
I dont know. All i know is that they bought up the business and are using the name.
I noticed the George Webb shoes as well. Did some googling and concluded the same as it being essentially a Barker budget brand.

I did order a pair or two about 6 months ago, they were sent back. Again, comparable quality to Loake L1s.

I like those tan oxfords. I was actually tempted myself.

I don't think you have paid over the odds. You would struggle to find bettter quality alternatives at that price IMO. There is a Loake Outlet seller on eBay where you can get some models for about £130 if you wanted to spend a little more. Check out Loake 1880 Aldwych in tan which would be the next level up.

Be aware that the trousers should generally be a lighter shade than the shoes. Those shoes look very light, so would go with a very pale suit and would look a little odd with black or dark grey IMO.

Agree with freelitres. Nice shoes. At the end of the day if you're happy with them, that's what matters. I still maintain, a pair of proper goodyear welted shoes for <£100 is decent value. Enjoy them smile

Anyone any experience of Ralph Lauren stuff?

I tried on these yesterday.

They were very nice.

They were also £480 and I therefore didn't buy them.

But is there value in them or are they £200 trainers with a premium price tag?

Their purple label stuff is so I see no reason to think these aren't.

I can't speak for that particular model, but I looked at a couple of similar pairs in high street shops; all had 'Made in China' somewhere in them. I walked away.

I really like the colour of those. I might be tempted to dabble in team trainers if those wern't so expensive!

Someone is making some big money there.

On the basis that I am not sure trainers are "me" anymore I have bought these from the Soletrader outlet site. They were about £75. If I get use out of them this season I might invest in some more expensive ones next year.

Cheers chaps. More or less what I thought, but set my mind at rest regarding value.

However, the suit I've gone for is a mid-dark blue hehe I've tried them on with some chinos, which are of a similar shade and I'm happy with how they look. I may just offend the fashionistas!

Got any photos of the George Webbs? I'm interested to see what they look like in the flesh and how much Barker I can see in them.

Outlet fodder.. worth 50-75 quid max. Not bad however, but not at that price.
