Have a look several pages back where I posted pictures of the Barker shoes. Turns out there are several people wearing these AND driving BMW (Nesquick was one such user IIRC). From your profile I see you are something of a BMW fan.

Jeffrey West shoes are next on my list. Probably these ones:

I walk past the Jeffrey West store in Lime Street regularly and have been tempted to buy many times but just managed to stop myself on each occasion. Nice shoes, well made and feel great to the touch but I'm of an age that I'm just not trendy enough to carry them off hehe

Those shoes would look great with the right jeans on a night out. I wouldn't wear those to work as I doubt any formal trousers or chinos would match wel with them.

Excellent.

Wasn't he the bloke from many months ago moaning about how stupid all of our shoe choices are?

Jeans and what else?

I like your magnificent red shoes, I'm just curious as to how you would blend them in to an outfit?

I can't afford any new fancy BMWs because I spend all my money on shoes and pocket squares. frown

Definitely what I would consider avant-garde!

Be advised that this high shine (coated) style leather can be stiff as hell. I once tried on a pair of entry level Loakes in Debenhams which were made of that shiny stuff. Absolutely no flex in them.

Thanks, that's good advice. The Loakes I have (3x pairs) are all very comfy, but my Barkers are the stiffest (they have worn in a bit now). I live 10 minutes from the Jeffery West factory shop, so might pop along and have a look.

Might get some bargain wine stoppers whilst I'm there:

Or something to spank the wife with when she moans about me buying yet more shoes:

It's crazy what you can buy from them, and the prices of some of their items (£450 on an umbrella, or £120 on a wallet).

Much love for Loakes here? I bought some recently as some cheapos and am quite impressed.

I need some new black Oxfords for work and am tempted to look at some Loakes. Outlaw is the model as I recall.

Loakes are my standard option for everyday work shoes. I've got 3x pairs and have been impressed with all. One pair are Loake 1880 chelsea boots, and these are my favourite pair of shoes/boots I own.

Many others on here will favour more expensive options (Church, John Lobb etc) but you can't go wrong with Loakes for the price.

If you wouldn't mind, next time you pop in, could you quiz them on who makes their umbrellas and wallets? I would be very interested to see the mark up they charge for applying their name to them.

I wouldn't say the wallet is a crazy price (assuming it is made in England and from premium leather) but £450 for a brolly is a massive rip off. There are two Italian makers and three English makers who are generally regarded as being the best and supply a lot, if not all, of the 'high-end fashion' brands.

A solid stick made from non-exotic wood should really not be over £300.

They can charge those markups because the Doorman-at-a-Victorian-themed-Burlesque-club market is probably quite a niche one.

Of course. Look at this one- it has a rather detailed eagle on it and the Jeffery West branding, but I definitely agree with you. No way should this be £450.

I'm with you. I wear Loake black wingtip Oxford brogues as everyday work shoes and have done for many, many years. I am now down to two such pairs worn in rotation as my third, and oldest pair, finally gave up the ghost when the uppers wore out. I think they lasted about 15 years.

The leather sole was replaced once in that time and they were fitted with thin rubber cover soles (once properly broken in) which were replaced, together with new heels, every 18 months or so over the shoe's life time. My other Loakes are treated similarly.

I know the aficionados frown on such things but the rubber soles means they can be worn in all weathers, remain comfortable, non-slippy and cost effective.

talking of Loakes anyone ordered from here before ?

www.afarleycountryattire.co.uk

they seem to be the cheapest for loakes and if you buy 2 pairs you get 10% off, 3 pairs 15%

They're here. Pics up later when I get home. They do look like the real deal. Proper GW sole.

Any sock or carpet requests? biggrin

Interesting. From what I can see on wooden and leather covered models, they appear well made but below the level of the top end makers who command similar prices, and often less. Whilst JW don't provide any photos of the brolly's construction you can see that the tips are plastic, whereas the better makers use metal. The one with the leather covered handle states it uses a steel Fox frame which may indicate they use Fox Umbrellas in Croydon, but I think it merely refers to design of the frame.

I see they refer to the rather ornate handles as silver, which if true, would certainly account for some of the cost but as they show you no hallmarks I am guessing it is at most silver plate, but more likely silver metal.

They are however, a lot better than I expected. Alexander McQueen ones are absolutely atrocious and £600! The difference between designer and maker.
