I would say that is a bargain, if only us men could get 3 pairs of shoes for that price.
We can...although they're most likely to be cheapo trainers. wink

Funny, all this talk of Barkers. The pair I have my eye on next are Barkers too!

More worryingly, I found myself thinking "Hmmmm" and started Googling for black and fluoro green Lotuses and Atoms.

I had what looked like these in 1987ish with a Sergio Tachini trainer top and bleached jeans - oh the days!!!
You'd be bang on with that but maybe a few years earlier, they are an 80's retro re-release. I now have 2 pairs.

They go well with my 6 pairs of Trimm Trabs and 2 pairs of Munchens.

Yeah strange, I have stopped stocking them in my shop.

I think Loakes offer far better value and quality.

Interesting point of view. I've got several Barkers, Church's, C&J and some Grenson Moccasins. I'm pretty open minded about brands and to some extent I want to experience them all. (Tricker's next I think) Although the likes of C&J feel like a higher quality product, I have not had any issues with my Barkers at all. I'm a big fan.

Whenever I have handled Loakes in the various shoe shops, they just don't appeal to me. I do like the styling on many models, but they just don't feel right to me. Perhaps I have only looked at their budget range or something, but all the leathers were corrected grain/coated and incredibly stiff. Plus, I'm not into these coated shiny leathers as I like a nice calf leather. I think I will buy some Loakes at some point, but I'm yet to find the right pair.

ETA: Perhaps I should be asking - which Loake model would you recommend for a nice brown oxford cap or monk strap in decent calf leather?

I can't help with specific recommendations for either of those, but I have some Loake Naylor which are pretty good quality. I'm also fairly confident my Tyrwhitt Arthur wholecuts are Loake manufacture - these are very good to my eye.
