Let me tell you this my son, you keep trying to impress bhes you're end up old, divorced and broke. So start dressing up like a real man not like a batty boy and get yourself a fk off watch - something like a PP Nautilus - to impress the guys cause those fkers you'll never have to divorce.
100% burnt.

Better bury Technodup's corpse before the dogs start to pick over it.

Are you a retired OAP female living on the Costa Del Sol?
Don't knock the catalogue shoes, she got two pairs for £15 and 20% off a real woolen shawl for when the winter comes in.

Burnt? He promotes wearing a watch to impress men and calls me the batty boy?

Really made me laugh that, but Artey has a point in my opinion.

I just can't stand it when guys turn up to what I would perceive as formal functions in silly clothes, with silly haircuts, and silly shoes, just because they think they look 'cool' or 'fashionable'.

Just put on a nice suit, some proper shoes and a proper watch.

At least you'll look back on the photos years later and not think you look like a tt.
Leaving aside the 'I'll wear what I fking like' argument, this was a casual wedding in 90 degree sun where the dress code was discussed beforehand.

Seeing as I was already forking out for an unplanned holiday I was fked if I was buying a linen suit I'd never wear again.

I like a suit as much as the next man, but if any of the thread traditionalists had turned up in a three piece and brogues as is their wont they would have collapsed with the heat and the other guests would have collapsed laughing at them. Dafties.
It was in excess of 35c on the day of the wedding, and I'll fully admit to being rather hot throughout the day in my dark suit. But looking at the photos, I feel it was worth overheating to look really fking sharp biggrin

Dark tailored suit, Ray Ban wayfarers, crisp white shirt, cuff links, tie, Barker shoes, nice watch. I like to think I looked like well dressed Italian Mafia... Either that or the one of the Blues Brothers.

But yes, despite my earlier rant, I guess everyone should wear what they want and what they feel happy in beer

I was just happy to be comfortable at my pals wedding. I don't need to dress up as some fantasy figure. wink

Today's purchase to replace my 5 year old day-to-day shoes which are now a bit worse for wear.

Church's Coppice. Longer in the toe than I would usually go for - but right size, comfortable and right price.

I really like those. Very nice.

I know what you mean about longer in the toe. I don't tend to like anything with long toes (clown shoes), but I think those look good.

Never heard of that model - good price though! Where did you get them?

Thanks chaps. Purchased from their outlet in Bicester Village.

Interestingly I can't find much online about this model either! There is a pair for sale on eBay.ie but that's it. They're marked on the sole as "Church's Hand Grade". Hand Grade isn't one of the collections on their website so I'm guessing they're an old line.

They're build on last 119 if that means anything?!

That's a good price too. I live 15 mins from Bicester and called into Church's last week but nothing decent in my size on the cheapo rack.

Good looking shoes but may I suggest that they are the wrong width fitting for you based on the gap created over the tongue. Maybe you are a G fitting rather than an F

This is an interesting point, and something you might be able to clarify for me!

Just to get this out of the way at the top - my feet are not cramped at all in these and the fit feels really nice.

I have had G width shoes before and all it does is create a gap around the sides of my heel (not right at the back of my heel - it's a length issue). I fear the issue is that I have strange feet. It's rare I can find an oxford that that 'closes' without the heel being very gappy at the sides.

Having had a browse of this thread, it seems there are plenty of oxford wearers with a gap when done up?

Not necessarily the wrong width fitting.

Feet with high arches or even particularly flat feet can cause the V to not close properly. Going to a wider fit could mean way too much room in the shoe.

Don't worry if the V doesn't close up as long as the rest of the fit feels OK.

You're only going to get it to close almost perfectly if you have them bespoke but its worth trying the wider fittings to see if they lessen the gap. If they create problems for you elsewhere then of course stick with what you have. I didn't know if you knew about the fact they did three widths. At that price you cant complain anyway. Good bargain.

I agree no cause for concern - the facings don't look as though they are designed to be anywhere near closed to me judging by the angle of them. Maybe purchase some shoe trees and see how they close on those to give a reference?

Most RTW shoes are unable to close due to the angle of the facings (though this is down to the huge variations of foot shape even in the same size and width) so are more stylistic preference than adjustability; unlike Derbys.

If an Oxford fits properly they don't need to be laced up and are just for the security and appearance though with RTW this level of fit is uncommon.

Bespoke don't always close as that is down to the preference of the customer and some people prefer to see a bit of gaping.

I have slightly narrow feet and can close all of mine when tieing, it'd bug the hell out of me not being able to!

The facings on my oxfords don't close even with the lasted shoe trees inserted.

I think certain makers have certain preferences.

Here are a pair of bespoke Berlutis. Berluti now employ Anthony Delos who is regarded as the best shoemaker in the world right now and the facings do not meet. If you look at other shoes made by him the facings almost always close so I assume the customer specified the amount of openness.

I am left in no doubt whatsoever.
Just need to find the spare ~£2200 for an off-the-shelf pair, and I'll be on my way.

I just had to google those.

Then I nearly fell off my chair laughing.

Some people really do have more money (or bigger credit card bills) than they have sense.
