Here's mine, weekend polish smile

Before polishing with a bit of Saphir Renovateur. Applied and left to soak in a bit before brushing off

First round of spit shine. Weather was a bit cloudy at the time

A little bit more shine overnight

Impressive.

Personally I would prefer to wear them a little less shiny.
I'm torn between waxy & megashine

I quite fancy something like this for the summer. These are Reiss, but has anyone seen anything similar elsewhere?

I was reading last night and came across a paragraph that made me think of this thread, where so often the care and construction of our footwear is discussed.
Please feel free to ignore.

And on their feet the tried and true Russian "lapti" - bast sandals - except that they had no decent "onuchi" - footcloths - to go with them. Or else they might have a piece of old automobile tire, tied right on the bare foot with a wire, an electric cord. (Grief has it's own inventiveness...) Or else there were "felt boots" - "burki" - put together from pieces of old, torn-up padded jackets, with soles made of a layer of thick felt and a layer of rubber.

There is no mention of common polishing products or techniques smile

Is Saphir Rénovateur the only thing you used? Just a heathy few coats? Those caps look superb.
Thanks guys.

I had one coat of Renovateur, a coat of Médaille d'Or Pommadier Cream and a build up with Pate de Luxe Wax Polish. I did shine it a bit more Saphir Mirror shine but somehow it dulled the shine. I had to go over with De Luxe Wax again. It should take in the wax better over time as I didn't polish this shoe before.

Church's, Jigsaw and Oliver Sweeney all do similar.

Common Projects, Tom Ford and John Lobb also have similar offerings at (obviously) higher prices.

To be honest, design-wise, I think the Reiss ones are the nicest so far. With some from Grenson a close second.

I'm not a fan of those but even without having seen them I would wager the Grenson ones to be have a more traditional look which I would favour.

I had a pair of John Lobb/Aston Martin Winners which are a sort of "smart trainer" and they had to go back as the cement failed and the upper lifted from the sole. Less than impressive for that price point and more of a Loser in my opinion.

I reckon Trabi is having a coronary somewhere if he has read this read today.

The Reiss ones look like a cheap imitation - which I assume they are. The stitching makes a world of difference to the aesthetic and the leather looks much, much better. I would 100% go for the Grenson out of the two.

The sad thing is, one of my friends, who incidentally everybody thinks is a connoisseur of all things, uses pledge wipes on his Kurt Geigers.

I haven't the heart to educate him because I would be wasting every breath.

For a "smart" pair of leather trainers, take a look at the Acne Studios Adrian trainer.

Most of their clothing is a far too fashionable for me however I have a pair of these shoes (in black) and they're lovely, with a fantastically simple design.

ETA: I have a pair of Common Projects trainers (in grey) and they're very nice but I'd still vouch for my Acne Studios pair if I had to choose between them.

Due to ankle support issues I tend to only buy smart boots that I can wear under suit trousers if needed, or with jeans.

Just got these from Next, not bad I recon

Also these Ted Bakers are really comfy once worn in
