Morning all. I have of late developed the view that I must have entered some weird space-time continuum thingy wotsit. How come, if my weight is going down (and the scales say so), the size of clothes I need to buy is going up? Was Large a few weeks ago, now need X large in some sizes. Ridiculous as I now weigh a stone and a half less than this time last year. Shall write to the minister of clothing sizes and complain in the strongest terms.
Your previous clothes have been worn and washed a number of times and have therefore stretched in accordance with your previous and now decreasing girth.

fking Helicopters.

Was rudely awakened at 4 this morning, by an almighty racket outside.

The police helicopter was hovering about 50ft above the roof of my house, with the big search light on. Stayed pretty much still for half an hour, I had to get dressed and go outside to tell it was the police chopper, there were no cars about, no bikes, generally no officers on foot. Just the helicopter.

I'm tired today.
Where are you? Most of the Plodchoppers have Twitter accounts and occasionally explain what they were up to / respond to questions... London is @MPSinthesky, Essex @QH99Heli (crap names...)

I was on a Jetstream Super 31 this morning, not only was it NOT a jet (talk about a misleading name) but it seemed to take the pilots a worrying amount of time to get it started yikes #2 engine started and seemed to rev up with a horrible whiny sound before stopping (smoke then seen coming from the front of the engine), they then started #1 up which seemed fine before having another go at #2

I'm not sure which was more worrying - the apparent difficulty in starting the second engine or the fact that the pilots who presumably are required to be highly-trained and semi-intelligent didn't seem to understand that a switch doesn't care how hard you push it.

Simple really, the Jetstream Super 31 uses a manual choke, as last seen on a 'proper' mini. Over time the twisty bit of metal breaks, requiring the choke to be held open with a clothes peg. The peg broke. Blame the engineers who serviced the clothes peg. Just be grateful it didn't require a mid-air jump start.

Meh.. they are getting the majority of their thrust from the prop rather than the "jet" so I still don't think they really count as "jet engines" except in the mind of you "engineering" types.

It's fun watching ginger people argue.

It's a turboprop.

A gas turbine with a propeller.

A jet engine, if you so wish.

You do realise that ~80% of the thrust in a 'jet' engine comes from the fan at the front via the bypass rather than the combustion products, making it identical to a turboprop just with a cowling?
