I honestly had no idea that bypass ratios were getting that high these days, the RR engine on the 787 has an 11:1 ratio apparantly yikes
More efficient, innit.

Low bypass engines (turbojets) have piss poor low speed acceleration.

High bypass engines (turbofans) are better.

Capiche?
Well every day is a school day I guess thumbup

At the risk of embarrassing myself here can I take a stab that it would improve fuel economy at subsonic speeds? Whereas at supersonic you'd want either low-bypass or a turbojet?
Why would you say that?
Surely when you're talking about supersonic speeds it's all about the drag? (not THAT sort of drag zepperkins) and surely a turbojet or a low-bypass will give you a much smaller frontal area?
I'd agree. Just wanted to see your logic wink

Air gets weird above Mach 1. Particularly strange just around Mach 1. It just can't move out of the way

Yes. I will get my Forth Rail Bridge photo tomorrow morning.

Re: Police Helicopters - I "liked" Northamptonshire Police on Facebook yesterday. They do a report on when/why their chopper was up and about. QI.

I was going to herald it as a solution to the impending bacon shortage.. and possibly the cause.

That is one thing I have been blessed with, but can be annoying ,as I have to combat through dozens of students at the barbers.

Hello.

I have not checked these trivial quarters today so I trust you were all on your best behaviour all day while I was gone. I should be back tomorrow.

Again, I am off again, play nicely and introduce any visitors with that charming attitude y'all have. smile
