In the last 2 weeks, our regular supplier has gone from £30/round bale, to £45/round bale. Needless to say, we told him to get stuffed.
The £8 a bale is for 25kg Timothy. Down here, large bale meadow haylage is £50. Small bale hay is £4.50 upwards.
Not quite sure why it's so expensive as we had perfect haymaking weather this summer.

Some bloke hit my car with his company van.
There's only a 3in scratch, bit it's very deep and down to the metal, he tried to offer me £50 to "fix it".
I'm going through insurance.
Thing is, because it's a licensed council vehicle I'll need an equivalent licensed Mercedes. That'll cost more than the repair, (£400 a day or something.?)
Should I feel guilty?
Perfect opportunity to test drive a newer Merc with your clients, I'd have thought...There's only a 3in scratch, bit it's very deep and down to the metal, he tried to offer me £50 to "fix it".

No, the car is your livelihood and you should be able to continue with it.There's only a 3in scratch, bit it's very deep and down to the metal, he tried to offer me £50 to "fix it".

Down there, you consume a lot more than you produce. A farmer we know well owns a haulage company as well as farms all over the country, and shifts most of his hay and haylage down south as even with all the haulage costs, he can get more for it than he can here. Fortunately, he still looks after us. We only use between 2 and 4 round bales a week, depending on the weather.
Central Scotland is a better place for buying hay/haylage, I agree.Down here they tend to sell hay by small bale - until I moved I used to buy in tons preferably off the field (got free haulage as a friend had a haulage company).
Tempted to feed clean straw mixed.

Have just been asked to pretend I know someone I've never met, and sign their passport application thingy.
But it's all good, because they're going to 'pay me' in gifts, apparently.

T and Blue wouldn't thank me for that I don't think. Fussy fking animals.
Clean oat straw is often higher nutrient, higher fibre, and less mould than crap hay, though. Mine also seem to like alfalfa (lucerne).
IME horses are rarely fussy enough to starve themselves to death .
Just been for an excellent drive and planned to get home to a cup of tea and a play of my guitar.
This plan was then shattered as the Jethro Tull tabs I wanted to look at are blocked here on copyright grounds!
Seriously, what do these people see wrong with others wanting to play some music?!
