Homeless people make me very nervous, only since my Mum had a particularly unpleasant run-in with one. I tend not to carry any cash on me, ever, and so when I say "I'm sorry, I really don't have anything on me..." I get the feeling they hate me because I'm lying, when I'm really not. I tend to avoid where they are (Canterbury underpasses), or pretend I'm on the phone and run past.
