I was amazed by this. That John Lewis Christmas advert that everyone is raving about - the cartoon one with the bear and the hare - is not made using CGI. It's actually filmed on a DSLR camera.

Wonder why they chose to do it that way.

Why would you go on Buzzcocks if you can't take a bit of abuse. Pretty standard is it not? Him and Dappy can have a party in the green room.

yikes I'd be laying on the floor of that minibus in a pool of my own piss, sucking my thumb crying for my mum.

That is very impressive, I still don't think it quite justifies the £7 million to make it though.

I thought that. It would have taken a lot more time, money and man-power to pull of than CGI but it does offer a different 'look'. It might well have been with the 'making of' video in mind for a bit of extra marketing.

Hm. Maybe. I've heard about the ad but not seen it until now. Damn them and everything that they stand for.

Someone in the replies section suggests that if you use a normal heater with the same output as the candles it will cost less to use the heater than the candles and the producer of the video hasn't in fact busted the laws of thermodynamics.

I've not tried it but I wonder - does the set up actually mean that whilst there's no more heat being produced, the warm air is better circulated?

My guess is that the pot acts as a heat store, and this arrangement manages to store and then radiate more heat at table-top level.

Whereas a candle's/tealight's heat just goes straight up until it hits the ceiling. There's precious little heat radiated outwards by a single flame.

Wow, lovely to see it made that way but how long before such modelling is a thing of the past? frown
