So is your hatred of the brand more a hatred of the memories spent with your father there. There is another train of thought was that he was trying to give you guys a treat whilst spending time with you?
Also known as McDonalds access or McDonalds dads around here.

Everything else, maybe. McDonalds fries though? I reckon they're just about the nicest I've had in this country.

Burger King fries have a special place in hell for things made out of tasteless deep-fried cardboard, and those horrible big soggy chip shop chips are just foul beyond belief, but I have been known in the past - when living in a student flat 20 yards from a McDonalds - to cook myself a nice steak with garlic and chilli butter, then whilst the steak was resting, zoom next door to get a portion of fries to create steak frites. cloud9

McDonald's has poor food nutritionally speaking but it's OK for a treat and tastes nice (as will anything if you dump enough sugar into it.biggrin)

Kids love it because it's cool food in a cool place. If obesity is your issue, go back to the 60's/70's - people had lard, full fat milk, dripping, crackling, etc. They didn't die.
Back to a time when people did eat lard, full fat butter et al and the UK didn't have an obesity epidemic?biggrin

I have to stand up for McDonalds

My mrs works for McDonalds so therefore McDonalds is paying my mortgage off for me. I dont know what it is but their does seem to be a snobbery around McDonalds that other places dont really get, I mean its not the most healthy place but othere food is far worse for you.

Plus when you look at the ingredients they are actually pretty good quality

The word treat keeps appearing, do people consider their local Dixie or Kansas chicken seated franchise a treat or plain old unhealthy food? smile

Why does it have to be one or the other? In our house its clearly both.

Quite. For me treats tend to be unhealthy food.

I had never eaten in a McDonalds until a few weeks ago, when I met up with a bunch of work colleagues one morning. I ordered a sausage and egg McMuffin. I was given something in a paper bag, which, when I opened it, turned out to be a cheeseburger and potato waffle.

I found it very strange to eat, it was quite fatty, almost entirely tasteless, but nevertheless not actually unpleasant. I cannot see why, however, why anyone would choose to eat something like that for breakfast when they could go to a proper cafe and have a full english breakfast made with decent ingredients. Has to be a triumph of marketing over content.

Well how many do you think there are in a typical Sunday roast?
And I eat less of those than mcdonalds! However, you are missing the point. It's not all about the calories or the fat but the useful vitamins, minerals, calcium, roughage and variety. With a burger and chips you are getting protien, fat and a lot of salt.. You get that in a roast too but much more better stuff also. Unless of course you live on a roast and potatoes only!

And then there's the sugar...which a traditional roast traditionally doesn't have.biggrin

I remember the guy on "Supersize Me" eating nothing but MuckDonalds, he was advised to stop by his Doctor before he killed himself.
Pretty much why I dont go in there. Besides which, half an hour later I am hungry again so go for some real food.
You k ow of you ate just chocolate eclairs, it would kill you. If you ate just hotdogs, it would kill you. Of you ate nothing but bread, it would kill you.

MODERATION people. It is a simple rule.
Even better if you ate nothing but salads you would die of malnutrition, eat kebabs or similar with salad in them and you would outlive the salad eater.

The issue with obesity is the human body evolved to hunt or scavenge for food and cope with peaks and troughs of food availability not to live in a world with readily available food.

While out in a far away town (might have been Taunton) a few months ago, we took the two HalfPints for their first ever McDonalds burger.

Was it child cruelty? Probably not.
Will I take them again anytime soon? Probably not.

Ahhh!

Can I just compliment you on your choice of eatery and may I also say you seem quite relaxed about life and very easy going. Wonder why.

Strange thread, why would it ever be cruel to take a child to a clean, safe and dare I say fun eatery?

Also, what's with people spelling it MacDonalds? that has got to be up there with the likes of typing 'brought' meaning bought.

hmmm, perhaps I will be shot for this but we get our dogs a McDonald's ice-cream as a treat. Or if they have been to the vet they can get a burger........

As people say above, moderation is key. And I would question whether those bemoaning McDonalds give their kids free range organic food every day. And never crisps, coke etc..

Not directly McD's related, but in the same vein of where Western society is going down the processed poop chute.biggrin
