Happier maybe, but let's also not forget it was the turning point at which the forkists started to gain real traction with their political sway...
I know, it was almost the death knell for the true spoon enthusiast. There was definitely skullduggery on behalf of the forkists.

Is there any more snow forecast? I'm considering an early switch back to my summer spoons.

Actually, if it were produced at about a 6' high level they would make a great seats for the eminent judges at the Spoon championships in Grenoble.

Are you going again? I've never been. Though, I've been meaning to for years. If you are planning to visit, could you pick me up the 2014 Svenmark brochure? I understand they're going to unveil some interesting new ideas on return flanges at the expo.

Yes, finally booked, Gave it a miss after the discovery of the Grillparzer forgeries that were not picked up by the judges. Lost faith in the process. Still I am told the prequalification is very rigorous this year. I will of course pick up the Svenmark, though I think its only in Swedish again.

Thanks. I learnt Swedish, along with Serbo-Croat and Catalan once I realised that without those, a true spoonista is "äventyras".

Those IKEA spoons are hardly collector material.

I have uncovered an International Spoon Criminal.

Yes. This vandal has destroyed thousands of teaspoons for the US and Canadian market. She is now in hiding in New Zealand, yet is still peddling her twisted wares .

It's enough to make your stirring fingers numb. furious

A request, sponistae.

The Godson, Tobias, comes over to stay quite regularly. He's 3, gets through quite a lot of Calpol due to tonsil issues.

His mother, who lives "au Council", regularly packs him up with an awful, plastic double-ended measuring spoon. This needs remedying. Not for the mother, but for the balance of my spoon drawer. I'll settle for pewter, but would rather have Sterling, or plated. Has anyone seen anything on their travels? My only option so far is to go to Ifould's of Cambridge for a bespoke.

I think you'll find Georgina Baker - if that is her real name, was driven to New Zealand, the end of the World, precisely because spoonistas were after her.

Well, you can't really go wrong with an Ifould, IMO. Though, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to contradict me. rolleyes

my god man, are you saying you don't know the volume of yer own spoons?

I could give you an exact measured spoonful of any size between 2.8 ml and 6.2ml at .1 intervals from my spoon drawer with my eyes closed (or fluid scruples or drams if you're a traditionalist - I still keep a set of whitworths of course) and expect most of us could do the same

As requested Blib, my (partial) contradiction.

Although it is true you cannot go wrong with an Ifould, especially one of the bespoke items, at 3 and with no prior spooning experience IMO it would be better to go with one of their off the shelf spoons and save the bespoke gift until he can really hold a 3/4 size (maybe a 2/3 at the very least).

The Windham range is good for young'uns and will let him appreciate a good spoon without growing out of it too quickly. I would suggest holding off on a bespoke item until he is about 5-6. Although if he shows promise, aptitude or wants to compete then a new spoon every year is a fantastic gift.

You and me don't get on after Schengen, omgus. But, I have to admit, that's pretty solid advice.

You need to let that go Blib, i am willing to move past it if you can.
I won't apologise as i believe i was justified in my actions. And it kept the emerging Chinese collectors happy without losing any spoons of true cultural value, although i know you did have your eye on a couple of the rarer items.

Even after i got completely shafted during the Hubsan-Moyles incident (where you clearly operated in more than an "advisory" capacity) i don't get why you are so hung up Schengen.

We've both done far worse things to other collectors in the name of Spooning.

Quite profound, that. and raises some thought- provoking issues of security. I have been considering the possibility if one of the new laser-cut RFID mini-tags inset into the flange of lesser spoons , so small as to be invisible to the naked eye, and simply planting a spoon or two at the front of the collection vault, (something like a Winchester Barnes, overly flashy but not valuable). This would alert me in the event of any unauthorized access. How are others handling spoon security?
