Any Australians on this thread? What can I legally carry with me for my 6 month outdoors adventure? I have a gerber multi tool effort, which completes most tasks when camping I've encountered so far but I imagine will fall short to outback demands.

Budget doesn't really matter as it will definitely get its use, and be used after the trip at home (if I can fly it back with me that is).

My two lock knives. The smaller one is part of my mountain biking kit, the bigger one is for hiking/camping trips.
Nothing fancy but I like them.

My latest delivery from the USA it's the CRKT Nobother. Great little knife that fits snugly in the hand. Bloody sharp too.

I bought this for fishing and shooting as I wanted something that would clean off easily and not harbour germs after cutting meat.

It's compact (only 20cm long) and the handle is more comfortable than it looks!

Sorting through my late dad's stuff my sister happened across this Hitler Youth knife:

Across the manufacturer stamp it is stamped INDIA, can't find any referance on tinterweb to it:

I've got a couple of Kukri knives to come too; a large one and a smaller one.

I received a Lansky World Legal from Heinne today (the Boker 42's are on 6 weeks back order) £16.95 inc. delivery. Nice knife and cheap.

Bloody hell thats me £16 poorer!
If it's legal it can't be locking. After having a bad day with a none locking penknife. Nearly a year of constant pain as I sliced into a finger joint does it have any kind of safety that will stop me slicing my hand to pieces again.

Stupid knife laws. Grrr

Yes it comes with a slide locking sheath, its going to need modding though.

Looking for an axe, hopefully santa may bring one, quite like the look of the Spyderco one.

Exactly. Anyway speaking of stabby people I saw a video of it last night on heinie site. It's in my basket but don't think I'll buy it. Looks far too tactical for operators who operate knife. I don't think if I ever got searched carrying that thing it would go well.

I have one and don't carry it for precisely this reason.
However I'm over 50 and have never been searched (apart from airports) in my life. The likelihood of me ever being searched is probably zero. So why don't I carry it? I don't know.

Are you not allowed locking blades there? What about fixed blades?

My current preferred folder is one of these, sits nicely in the hand and cuts well too:

I'm 44 and never been searched. I have plenty of knives I don't carry for the same reasons. I'll stick with the Swiss army although even one of those looks a bit too stabby for me to carry comfortably.

Meanwhile,in London somebody just got stabbed with a carving knife.

I take this when out in the country but make sure it's not on me anywhere else. Like if I'm in town. Camping in Spain here.

Anyway. Thanks and to get the thread back on track. I dabbled with Filipino martial arts years ago. Enjoyed it and always wanted a karambit so I got one. Nearly did myself an injury so put it away and never got it out since

In short no. Unless you have a very good reason like to and from work and you use it for work or are going camping or something.

It's complicated.

Not locking and under 3 inches and even then if you have it in a pub they might consider it an offensive weapon.

It's an unbelievably ridiculous law.

As I said, it doesn't prevent genuine stabby types from getting tooled up.

I got asked for ID buying a pumpkin carving set in Waitrose, I had to point out that if I was intending to stab someone I wouldn't a) be shopping in Waitrose and b) be buying pumpkin carving tools with their tiny flexible feeble blades.
