Why are they illegal - not being funny just thought these would be legal confused
Butterfly knives are illegal, I don't know the ins and outs of why. Something to do with being a lock knife that can be operated one handed (if that makes sense?).
IIRC It's any knife with a blade 3 inches or less and folding (ie non-locking) can be carried in public perfectly legally. So lots of swiss army knives and multitools can actually be carried in public, although obviously if you take one into a football ground or nightclub you will run into trouble.

I have one of these, neat little thing but it is illegal to carry it in your wallet in the UK which renders it rather useless:

Illegal?

Really?

Damn i have one in my wallet. Very useful little thing and when seen by a policeman he commented on what a good idea it was and then left it in there.

yes So the fact I have a 20 year old Swiss Army knife with a locking 3 1/4" blade means I am a knife wielding criminal. Hark at me.

Yep, it's technically a lock knife so illegal to carry without a good reason (not defined in law, but for example a chef going home from work or someone fishing - although those reasons probably wouldn't work if you got caught with that knife as it's not really suitable for those tasks).

However it's always down to the individual plod to implement it, he either didn't know the law or figured you weren't a teenage chav carrying it to hold up a post office so let it go smile

Couple of Rambo jobbies bought many years ago when I was a kid along with many throwing stars, catapults, crossbows and a blank firing beretta m92f!
These are the only things left as it seemed a shame to get rid.
Still come in handy for the odd bit of DIY and garden work and scaring the st out of a potential burglar.

Excuse the crap pic, quick snap from my phone!

I thought the whole point of them was that they just snuck into being legal in the UK. I got it to replace an old lock blade i had worn on my belt for years. frown

depends on your definition of defence...compared to a spoon I think it will defend you far better!

I have a frost mora, what else do you really need?
Hopefully nothing. I've just bought a mora spoon gouge (arrived today!) and think I'll get a knife to go with it (mailnly for carving but will be useful for work as well).

I've got one of these, it came with my tool box:

I've tried sharpening it, with no success. Is it because the knife is rubbish or is it user error? paperbag

I used to have one of those. It's not you. The material the blade is made from is terrible!

da's been working at this recently.

Blade was forged in denmark, etched and inlayed with gold with the forgers initials

The wood isnt dyed, its black african iron wood. supposedly the densest wood you can get. i tried a file at it and barely made a mark in it.

bands are 925 silver.

and the ivory is from a mammoth tusk that was pulled from the north sea

Those knives where the blade "shoots" the blade straight up into position via a little switch on the handle... What are they called? Are they legal or not? whistle
