Firstly looks like you made a great knife.

Re the blade rusting that's something I too found to my cost. I must have put something away damp in the drawer I keep my knifes and I've made a right state of the blade. Clearly one of the steels in the damascus mix is more susceptible to rust than the other and it's made quite the mark. I've started sanding it back to try and restore the blade but I think I need to get a larger range of grits to get a decent finish.

Hopefully you can get yours back to new looking more easily maybe even with some metal polish.

I used mustard to treat my carbon steel Morakniv. Would that work on the steel you have?

That looks great, I would love to have a go.

The mirror polish on the top knife was absolutely pain staking - it took me AGES with sandpaper, i only did one side!
Could you share which sandpaper you used. Make and grits please. As above I need to take some material off mine and then bring it back to a decent finish.

Yet more knife laws...

I'm all for getting knives off the streets but don't like the creep towards law-abiding citizens being banned from owning anything a Police Officer decides 'looks threatening'.

This was always a "something must be done!" response rather than a useful one. Bloody great fixed blade knives carried with no (reasonable) reason have been illegal for ages anyway whatever their decoration; the zombie knife law made no real useful difference and I can't see that these proposed changes add much expect making it reasonable to remove knives where it's obvious they're only there for violent reasons.

As a police officer said on one forum I used to use - he'd never ever turned up the minimum quality sort of knife that a forum member would consider carrying; but that cheap plastic handled kitchen knives and those 'orrible brass-and-wood £2.99 locker knives from the market were exceeding common. Or to put it another way, the laws are very unlikely to unfairly penalise vaguely law-abiding citizens.

Whilst not directly knife related :

What started out as a joke around the size of my log burner turned into getting a little axe named after me.

He’s known for his knives but he’s previously made me a cleaver and now this.

ADG Custom Knives came up with the Mac Mini. It’s a lovely thing, 1084 steel with purple wood scales.

Perfect for batoning logs for my ‘small’ log burner.

I love that, it's a lovely little thing.

By posting this you now have to start a 'show us your axe thread', that could be interesting.

A small thing, but I wanted to share my positive experience with Victorinox.

I've got an Alox Soldier knife from the last run in 2008, a father's day gift from my kids. I've used it a lot but recently bent the tip of the blade trying to pry up a particularly stubborn lid.

Rather than risk trying to straighten it myself, I contacted Victorinox who said they could fix it, but would have to return it home to Switzerland to do so. They also warned that the blade might be unfixable, in which case they would need to swap it for a new, non-engraved, one. Anyway. I dropped the knife off to them and pretty much forgot all about it.

Fast forward a few weeks and I received a call saying it was ready. Collected it from their shop on Oxford Street and it's as good as new; straightened, sharpened, cleaned and in a new little pouch...all for the princely sum of £5!

Given that it costs about £1,75 just for a bottle of Coke these days I am amazed they could process it, ship it to Switzerland, fix it return it and throw in a pouch all for a fiver. Needless to say I am very happy with their customer service clap

Question for those knowledgeable about 'the world of knives':

I've a Medford Hunded Tumbled (Ti) and a Spyderco Drunken, that I bought during lockdown. Having realised I'm not Ray Mears or in the SAS, I thought I may as well sell these. They've not been used other than to open a parcel or 2.

I obviously can't sell such things on eBay....where would I sell such things.....and best place to establish value/asking price?

Cheers

Tom

It’s been some years since I’ve added any knives to my collection and there are so many more spyderco models than 20 years ago. That drunken is a beautiful looking knife smokin

In the past you could sell them on eBay.uk, but no more - and I used to be on British Blades before that vanished.

British Blades, there’s a blast from the past!!! biggrin

Have been pondering a new Spydie purchase recently, but the prices are now prohibitive. My last one cost me about £40.

I bought this on a recent trip to Ypres / Leper in Belgium.

It's a WW1 British 1907 pattern bayonet as used with the Lee Enfield SMLE rifle.
It looks like it has been dug up as it's rusty, pitted and the wooden handle is in very poor condition.
There were others in far worse order

The condition isn't important to me, the fact it was from Flanders means more to me.

When I was a teenager my neighbour collected WW1 and 2 memorabilia - this was in South Africa.

He had every bayonet type there was, live grenades, bullets, a Lee Enfield and a Mauser (working) and uniforms etc.
One uniform, German from WW1, was on a mannequin and looked pristine from the front…the back was shredded and had dark stains all over it…

It was a large and very interesting collection for me to see as a lad and being right next door, saw it many times.

Just a quick update on my collection and the endless hunt for the perfect pocket sized EDC friction folder wink

I had 2 new ones today in the post - the TA Tulip top left, and the HH Rocket below it. I like the Rocket, but it appears there's no way at all to cinch the blade up when open, luckily the blade shape will limit the amount of point work you'd ask of it. Playing with the Tulip, it might be the nearest to perfect yet; there's enough choil on the blade to get your finger safely on it, but it could do with more length on the top/back when open to give a better lock.

Carrying on down, the Fox/SP Bean is lovely (I like Serge's work, but he won't ship to the UK) but the detent is not strong. Unlike the Rocket, you can squeeze the detent bar to improve matters, or hook some flesh into the thumb hole. The Boker Plus Wasabi at the bottom is another lovely knife, but is so thin I find myself holding it sideways and so letting the blade free. Also a bit long for some pockets.

Back to the top, a BP Subcom FF. If I could find another, I'd consider modding one - take some spring out of the detent, and a bit off the flipper length. Then the Kershaw Pub - don't know what I've managed to get on the blade of this one, it won't come off. Main problem here is I'm never quite sure which way it goes to open it. Another one I might modify. And lastly a simple Higonokami, just because you have to.

Is the Victorinox blade longer than 3"? If so, removing the lock mechanism wouldn't make it legal for carrying without good reason in the UK.

And another new, unusual, knife today - A Boker Plus Sproket.

Opens on a geared system where the gear plate become part of the length, so a knife that fits in your jean's watch pocket goes a long way along your hand when open. Very solid and very short cleaver blade. There's a detent ball for open and closed, and a massive finger choil to hold it open in use.

I rather like it. I also like Boker Plus for producing these unusual little knives at reasonable prices (£37 for this one at HH), and I've learnt from Subcom FF a couple of posts above that they do so in fairly small runs, so it's worth grabbing them while you can if you're interested.

Argh - dammit - while I, personally, don’t like that Boker, I did just have to go and look at the HH website and found this little beauty with CF handles. Not bad at £40 smokin

My current EDC is the Spyderco UKPK and I love it. But it is a little ‘tactical’ looking and this Boker is much nicer in that respect

I have the standard red handled version and really like it. Also good to see so many ex BB posters here
