I'm not sure if this has been done before, the infamous PH search function is having one of it's turns today.

Anyway, I was thinking it might be nice to do a Pistoheads secret santa. I'm quite happy to sort it out from a organisation point of view.

Seeing as the PH membership criteria requires you to be the Director of at least two companies, I'm sure most of PH could part with a small amount of money and it could be quite amusing.

I haven't really bashed out the details, but I thought if we created a list in this thread, I could then compile a spreedsheet, match people together and then post the list on here. From that, the matched pair could PM a postal address to each other.

If a limit is set of £5(?) and people who want to take part have listed themselves by the 7th, that gives me time to create the list and then 2 weeks for people to buy and send.

As I'm typing this I realise there is actually no 'secret' aspect to this... rolleyes

Still, could be fun and after christmas we could post pictures of our presents biggrin

Any mileage?

I'd be up for this, a lady in our office is trying to run one, but the majority of people i work with are miserable sts & say 'bah humbug' to anything Christmas related.
Actually that's much like PH?
I'm keen, i think up to £10 would suffice as many of the PH director's will be getting their multi-million pound bonuses & could set aside a crisp £10 instead of putting it towards coke & hookers. wink

You give and receive presents but the secret is that you don't know who you receive them from. smile

For it to work you would have to be the administrator and collect the addresses then send an address to each participant. smile

Yeah, except in this instance you will need to know your secret santa's PH name.

I don't think it will be too difficult to organise. The hardest part will be to get people to commit, after that it's just a case of exchanging PMs with a postal address.

So, what is the general consensus, £5 or £10?

Yeah, I was trying to avoid that. Only because I'm not sure people would want me having their address, although I don't suppose it makes much difference whether I have the postal address or a random PH'er.

I don't mind sorting out addresses and I'll make sure it is deleted afterwards, unless people would prefer somebody else to do it, like a mod or somebody official from PH?

Well only you will connect the name/address with the user name.

I organised a cd burning swap on another site which was secret and that worked really well and people got to hear a bizarre mix of music they'd never heard of before. smile

Tried it on here and the thread was deleted due to copyrights. frown

They do this on another forum and the steps are:
1. Post a thread asking people to sign up.

2. Get them to e-mail the administrator their name, address and some personal info to be released to the SS (car owner? make/model? male/female? likes/dislikes in gifts)

3. Admin matches up people and then emails the SS the above info (but not forum user name so secrecy is maintained). For some reason, she doesn't pair people.

4. Everyone tries to find out about their SS recipient by working out who the hell they are (much stalking ensues).

5. Thread for recipients to post when they've received their gift. Non-senders named and shamed at end.

It's a brave person who organises this... laugh

I'd be up for this, sounds infinitely more fun than trying to work out what to get Doris the obese admin girl.

Doesn't sound too hard from an organisational point of view, we all email the organiser our addresses, you put all the names in the hat, the first one out buys for the second, the second buys for the third, thirds buys for fourth... last buys for first. Email each participant with the username, name and address of the person they're buying for.

I'd be up for this too.

Vixen, quite intrigued with your CD burning idea as well!

Oh, and forum war did break out when someone sent a vibrator and copy of the Karma Sutra to a recipient who opened it in front of her (religious) family...

Like I said, tried it on here and it was quickly deleted.

It ran for years on the Urban75 forums.

I'm liking that sound of this even more biggrin

Okay, well I'll create a list below and people can add their usernames as they see fit. By 10am next Wednesday (5th December) we will close the list and start sending out emails with name, address and likes/dislikes. Sound okay?

I don't mind being the admin, unless anybody has any objections?

wouldn't work on PH as all you have to do is type in the name in the members finder.

Personally i think:

table with user name, car, gender and country.

PM name and address

Then when you pair people up just put, for example:

PH member
37 Union Street
manchester
M34 7HX

Are we taking this seriously or as a laugh?

Then PM feedback to yourself: who know who has been paired up. No shows get Named and Shamed.
