NEVER ask for fashion advice on this forum. Think essentially about where you are? The sort of people that do thousands of posts on a car forum, are not the sort of people you want to be askign for any sort of advice. The majority are all geeks, who think a pair of stonewash baggy jeans and a t shirt are what you should be wearing!

For example, the amount of people slating red trousers in the other thread is ridiculous. I don't even normally bothe rlooking in any of the clothing advice threads on here, as everything seems to be "chav".

Anyway, The wax barbour jackets are nice, i have the sporting one with tweed shoulder patches which i love!

I've had a Solway Zipper for 39 years. It's just going away for some TLC.
Got my father's Solway Zipper, which is of a similar age. Dropping apart but don't really want it refurbished.

The key with Barbour is surely never to wear anything which actually says Barbour on it.

So very true smile

The last "What Coat" thread was a prime example.
To be fair, I'm not convinced there's a correlation between post count and sartorial sensibility, rather, I think it is the inability of people to accept that others have different tastes in life, clothing etc. It seems the two most prevalent responses to an opposite taste are either that the person is a chav or a homosexual.

I can recommend the Barbour Corbridge Rustic wax jacket. Not so keen on the International range but Heritage and Lifestyle ranges are well made and not in your face.

One of the reasons I like the one in my OP.

http://www.outofthecity.co.uk/barbour-chelsea-spor...

That seems decent value at £70 but I prefer the cord collar from my original post.

Maybe there's a chav inside of me screaming to get out.

The quilted ones on men just look a bit poncy to me. There was a time, last year, when everyone seemed to be wearing them. They seem to be a fashion item rather than something functional.

My Mrs has a waxed Barbour which is pretty nice. Cost me £300 and some of the stitching on a pocket is coming loose after 12 months.
Barbour customer services are pretty good. I bought my wife a a wax overcoat and it faded quite badly on one panel after about 9 months. I sent it back to them and they returned it with a new coat as well.
That's good to hear. I think she has been in touch with them and they've asked her to take it into a store with the receipt. Hopefully she'll get a new jacket. thumbup

Considering post count as the be all and end all, I entirely agree. It was more the point that a group of blokes on a car forum - with fashion tastes from ultra modern through to the more popular "not being naked" - are not the right chaps to be asking for fashion advice smile Especially when many, like you say, consider their particular 'style' as 'it' biggrin

Quilted Barbour jackets, the ones that are all the rage with chavs, rich and poor, these days are the ultimate fashion accessory for those looking for the ultimate "used car salesman" look.
Popped down to the shops at the weekend and spotted a whole family clad in them, even the poor three year old. They were all decked out in wellies, sunglasses and quilted jackets. They'd obviously gone to a lot of effort but seemed utterly clueless as to what a collection of berks they looked.

They had a nice mongrel with them, although they looked mortified by it - to leave the house round my way with anything other than a pair of Border Terriers is to risk social ruin.

I've seen more people wearing the waxed ones than the quilted ones. They are everywhere recently. OP, I wouldn't ask for advice here as there are lots of old people who have go on on on on on on and on about how many cm above your ahole a cummerbund should be but if you make an effort in your casual wear you are a ponce. Not realising what berks they looked in the 70s.

Then you have all the young wannabee fit in to PHers who dress like tits (Mat777) and other people who just recommend the most expensive thing they can find to show how they are considerably richer than yoowwwwwwwwwwwwww.

I have a green quilted one used when out shooting on milder days (not many up here!) I also own a couple of Hoggs of Fife waxed and tweed and an Aigle, Le Chameau and a cracking Harkila one too.
Never worn on high street unless on way home from a days shooting or beating.

Nail on head! That's spot on really. I don't even open 99% of those type of threads for that very reason.

I guess what I was asking was "I like this style of jacket and I want to buy one. However, I believe Barbour to be a quality make at this price level, should I be considering anything else?"

A bit about me;

- 27 years old;
- Choice of cars are 62 plate Insignia as workhorse and E46 330Ci in the garage;
- Just bought a 4 bed semi for around £200k for me, the OH and our dog;
- Don't have an awful amount of disposable but need a jacket to keep me warm;
- Don't shoot amymore.

= Middle class boy needs middle class coat.

As a similarly middel class boy, I have always regarded Barbour quilted jackets as the lining for a thornproof wax jacket...

Generally I don't need to worry about thorns, and I don't need a wax jacket... I am concerned this makes me a chav?

3 years ago a quilted barbour would have been fine, then fking danny dyre and jason strathom or whatever hes called started wearing them and everyone jumped on board.

now they are chavvy,

i still wear a long one to work, and a short one under my wax barbour.
